Buddhist story: An uncle takes his nephew to hell.
At the end of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, during the Liu Song Dynasty, there was a monk in Shaanxi whose legal name was Shi Tanshi, known as the white-footed monk.
After he became a monk, he often showed his magical powers. In the last years of Emperor Taiyuan (376 396), Emperor Xiaowu of the Jin Dynasty brought dozens of scriptures and laws to the Liaodong Peninsula to promote the teachings, which was the beginning of the propagation of Buddhism in the Goguryeo region.
In the early years of Yixi (405 418), the master returned to Guanzhong and educated sentient beings in Sanfu.
Because he walks barefoot all year round, but even if everyone sees him stepping on muddy water, his feet will not be stained with a trace of dirt. Because of his feet whiter than his face, the believers called him a white-footed monk.
At that time, there was a Chang'an man named Wang Hu, Wang Hu's uncle had passed away for many years, and one day Uncle Wang Hu's soul suddenly appeared in Wang Hu's dream, took Wang Hu to travel to 500 hells, and explained various karma to him one by one.
* When the two of them parted after hell, my uncle persuaded Wang Hu Dao very sincerely: "Virtuous nephew, because our ancestors have accumulated yin virtue, so the King of the Earth Bodhisattva asked me to lead you into the underworld** Cause and Effect Disguise Diagram, now that you have understood the principle of karma and retribution, you should practice Buddhism after returning to yang." If you don't know who to rely on, the white-footed monk is the best choice. ”
After listening to his uncle, Wang Hu woke up from his sleep.
In the next few days, Wang Hu visited various monasteries, and finally found the barefoot Master Tanshi, and took refuge under his throne, where he was taught for life.
Later, Helian Bobo, the leader of the Xiongnu in the north, led his men to attack Guanzhong for no reason and killed hundreds of people. At that time, Master Tan Shi was also unfortunately captured. But when the soldier's sword slashed at the master, the master was unscathed. Helian Bobo saw it with his own eyes, and couldn't help but be impressed, and ordered the pardon of all the monks in the world.
After the freedom of the master Tan Shi into the deep mountains to cultivate the head of the ascetic, a few years later, Tuoba Tao again attacked Chang'an, in Guanzhong, Luoyang area all evil.
At that time, there was a man named Cui Hao, who had learned the side door when he was young, and in order to expand his own power, he slandered Tuoba Tao, saying that Buddhism was not beneficial to the people and should be abolished.
After hearing this, Tuoba Tao really ordered the destruction of Buddhism in the seventh year of the pseudo-Taiping, sent his subordinates to burn and loot the monasteries, and forced the monks and nuns to return to the world.
Master Tan Shi knew that this was a doomed catastrophe and had been waiting for the right moment in the mountains.
In the last years of the puppet Taiping, Master Tan Shi knew that Tuoba Tao was about to die, so at the court meeting on the first day of the first lunar month, the master suddenly came to the palace gate with a tin cane.
The doorman played: "There is a white-footed monk who wants to break into the palace gate. ”
Tuoba Tao ordered the master to be killed, but the sword could not hurt the master in the slightest.
When Tuoba Tao heard this, he was furious and personally took the sword to cut his master, leaving only traces like wiring where the sword was cut, but it still could not hurt anyone.
Seeing this, Tuoba Tao ordered his subordinates to put the master in the tiger cage, but the tigers in the cage were so frightened that they prostrate on the ground and did not dare to move when they saw the master. But when Cui Hao approached, the tiger bit and roared at Cui Hao.
Only then did Tuoba Tao know that the master's morality was profound, which was beyond the reach of ordinary people, so he was ashamed and knelt down and begged the master to explain the Dharma to him.
Soon after, Tuoba Tao finally died and was succeeded by Sun Jun. Sun Jun was a great lay man who believed in Buddhism, and he vigorously promoted Buddhism, and Buddhism flourished again in a few years, but Master Tan Shi no longer knew where it went.
