Phnom Penh, 25 Feb (Xinhua) -- A spokesman for Cambodia's ruling People's Party said on 25 February that the People's Party won a landslide victory in the Cambodian Senate election held on the same day, and the preliminary statistics have exceeded 80 percent of the votes.

It has been learned that the People's Party, the Funcinpec Party, and the Khmer Will Party and the National Power Party participated in the fifth Senate election held on the same day.

Cambodian Senate elections are held every six years. The current Cambodian Senate has a total of 62 seats, of which 58 are elected by vote, two are appointed by the King and two are appointed by the National Assembly.

Cambodia's National Election Commission will announce the preliminary results on March 2 and officially announce the allocation of seats on April 2.
