I joined the army in December 1973, and during my 12 years in the army, many unforgettable things happened to me, but one of them is still fresh in my memory, that is, the first time in my life to "pick up the army", and it is also the only time in my life.
I took over the army in November 1981, when I was a company commander, but I was honored to be assigned to pick up recruits in a county in northern Jiangsu.
At that time, when I received the assignment, it was at the beginning of November, and in the first days, I was very happy because I had been in the barracks for too long and rarely went out to see the world, but now, I finally got my wish, and I thought that I finally had a chance to go out and "travel".
However, when our group arrived in the county, to be honest, there was nothing but disappointment and disappointment.
Although it is already the 80s, the county seat in northern Jiangsu seems to be in an almost primitive state, and there is hardly a formal road in the county, and the car is driving on the dusty road, and the car is permeated through the window cracks, which makes people particularly uncomfortable.
After arriving at the county seat, the person in charge of the local people's armed forces department was a minister surnamed Si, and his reception work was quite enthusiastic. Although the facilities at the guest house were not very good at that time, and there was not even hot water for the bathing place, it was reasonable for me to grow up in the countryside.
However, in the following process, I encountered three troubles. Here's what I'm going to say to you.
First trouble:
At noon on the second day of our stay at the guest house in the county seat, the weather was fine and cloudless, and I and the platoon leader Chen Yushu and I were wandering around the street, and when we walked to the local department store, we saw a crowd of people.
Out of curiosity, we also squeezed over to join in the fun. When I got closer, I realized that someone was engaged in a shopping mall - selling a batch of fabrics, and each piece of fabric cost ten yuan.
Seeing the people who bought the fabric come out happily, we were also moved and discussed buying a piece of fabric for each person and making a decent dress at that time. So, I pushed Zhang Chengfeng, the platoon commander of the third machine company, to the front of the **, and I handed over the money to him.
When he handed over the twenty yuan to the salesman, what he didn't expect was that after the salesman received the money, he didn't send the fabric to Zhang Chengfeng in the end.
So, we asked the salesman, "You put our money in the cash box, why don't you give us the fabric?" ”
The salesperson's answer made us angry: "When did you give it to me, why don't I know?" ”
In a fit of rage, we began to reason with the salesperson. While we were arguing, a leader of the mall came over, understood the situation and comforted us, saying: "Comrades, you don't have to worry, if we make a mistake, we will take stock after work!" ”
So, we went back anxiously, and for the first time we received the troops, we encountered such troubles, which we could never have dreamed of.
After returning to the guest house, we had dinner, and when we were about to go out for a walk, suddenly two people came to the door, and we took a closer look, and it was actually the salesperson who sold fabrics during the day and the leader of the shopping mall. It turned out that they were mistaken, and they kept saying "I'm sorry" and returned the money to us.
Hearing the leader say this, we also feel very embarrassed, as soldiers, in order to buy fabrics, desperately compete with the people, that kind of behavior is not very decent.
But in any case, the trouble is solved.
Another troublesome thing is that during the recruitment process, I found that a young man of school age actually had high blood pressure, and according to the regulations, such a situation could not be hired under any circumstances.
However, the leaders of the local military department insisted on sending the young man into the army, which led to a stalemate in the entire recruitment process.
In order to ensure that every soldier meets the standards, the person responsible for receiving the conscription must set an example and take good care of every critical pass, especially the home visit to those qualified young people, which is the key consideration in the final recruitment.
One day, accompanied by the staff of the Ministry of People's Armed Forces, I decided to make a home visit to the man who had high blood pressure. He is a town soldier, his father is the leader of the town finance office, and his mother is a high school teacher, and his family is well-off.
After arriving at his house, the personnel of the People's Armed Forces Department walked away under the pretext of going to the toilet. At this time, the young man's father took out an envelope and handed it to me, and said, "Comrade, please accept it, this is a little heart!" ”
I knew what he was thinking, and I rejected it immediately. Subsequently, I followed the procedure to inquire and understand the young man, and found that he was indeed unsuitable for enlistment, and finally removed him from the list.
As a soldier, I feel that I must act impartially, otherwise I will have a guilty conscience and will not be at peace for the rest of my life.
The third trouble was that during my home visit, I met an enthusiastic parent who insisted that she would keep me at her house for dinner no matter what, which made me feel very warm.
When our troops receive soldiers, there is a clear stipulation that they will not accept the hospitality of the parents of the conscripts, but there are always exceptions to everything.
One day, when I visited a village in the township, a mother invited me to a meal anyway.
At that time, the living conditions of the rural people were generally not very good, and when the mother heard the news that I was going, she deliberately killed a little rooster and steamed the rice.
This kind of meal is generally eaten only by rural people during the New Year's holidays.
I understand the mother's approach, both out of respect for the military and out of hope that her child will be hired (in fact, the young man met the standards in every way).
During the meal, I noticed that the mother had put a lot of lean meat in my rice, and although the meal was particularly delicious, my heart was heavy.
After the meal, I secretly took out five yuan and put it in the drawer of the mother's kitchen cabinet while she was not looking.
After more than half a month of hard work, the task of receiving troops was finally successfully completed. It was hard, but I learned a lot of wisdom that I would never have learned in the barracks.
Later, I transferred to a local area, and once again passed by the county town where I received the troops, and found that there was no trace of the dilapidated state of the past.
The county town is full of high-rise buildings, the streets are neat and clean, and then go to the local countryside to see, almost every household has built a beautiful building, many private cars are parked on the side of the road, and some old people are chatting in the village park, showing the happiness and comfort of rural life everywhere.
I feel happy for them from the bottom of my heart.
This is the end of the story.
