Germany international Timo Werner has joined Tottenham on loan from RB Leipzig and will play for the London side until the end of the season. The 27-year-old striker underperformed during his two-year spell at Chelsea between 2020 and 2022, scoring 23 goals in 89 games. Despite this, Timo Werner helped Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021.
However, his return to Leipzig was also unsuccessful, and he was relegated to the bench under new manager Marco Rose. Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Hangming needed reinforcements in the attacking line due to his participation in the Asian Cup, and Timo Werner's loan signing filled the void. Expressing his appeal to the club, Timo Werner cited the manager's conversation, the team's style of play, the pitch and the team as reasons for his decision.
Since joining Tottenham, Werner has scored just two goals in 14 games this season. Tottenham manager Marco Ross says it's fair to allow Timo Werner the chance to fight for his place in Germany's squad for Euro 2024. Timo Werner is expected to make his Tottenham debut against Manchester United this Sunday.
