Spanish football club Athletic Bilbao striker Iñaki Williams will make his debut at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside the Ghana national team Blackstars. Despite the difficulties of scoring goals in the Ghana squad, Iñaki is highly regarded as a legend at club level in Bilbao. This season, he has contributed 11 goals in 19 appearances to help Bilbao qualify for the Champions League.
However, Inaki's commitment to the national team means he will miss three important matches in Bilbao from January 13 to 22. Ghana will face Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique in Group B of AFCON. If Ghana reach the final, Iñaki will miss three more games for the club.
While Inaki's departure could affect Bilbao's chances of finishing in the top four in La Liga and going deep in the Copa del Rey, Ghana's recent disappointing form at AFCON has given them some comfort. In the last edition, Ghana failed to qualify, completing the group stage and finishing bottom of the table. Ina could have opted to play for the Spanish national team, but for the sake of pride for his family, he opted to represent Ghana. He is excited about his AFCON debut and wants to make a memorable contribution in the competition.
