Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig for the remainder of the season. The deal includes the option for Tottenham to have the option to transfer him as a permanent member at the end of the season. Timo Werner is a 27-year-old striker who has dropped in the rankings for Leipzig this season. He made just eight appearances in the Bundesliga, only two of which were starts, and scored two goals in all competitions.
Werner, who previously played for Chelsea from 2020 to 2022, will now wear the number 16 shirt at Tottenham Hotspur. He will be committed to helping Ange Postecoglou's side chase the top four in the Premier League. During his time at Chelsea, Timo Werner scored 23 goals in 89 games and won multiple trophies, including the Champions League. At Leipzig, he scored 113 goals in 213 appearances in two periods.
In international competition, Timo Werner made 57 appearances for Germany, scoring 24 goals and helping his country win the Confederations Cup in 2017. Despite United's interest in Timo Werner, Tottenham managed to sign him, making him the first player to sign in the January transfer window. In addition, there have been reports that Tottenham are close to signing Radu Dragusin, although Bayern Munich and Napoli are also interested. Tottenham are currently fifth in the Premier League table, just one point off the top four and six points behind leaders Liverpool. Timo Werner is likely to start against Manchester United on Sunday.
