The Canon EOS R1 resolution is lower than expected and does not support 8k

Determining the roadmap for a Canon camera body is usually a silly errand, but occasionally some progress is made. In 2024, Canon will focus on the professional-grade cameras in the lineup, which includes the long-awaited Canon EOS R1.

The Canon EOS R1 will be launched "earlier" than the EOS R5 Mark II. Canonrumors is safe to say that they lowered their CP+ expectations in February, even if the previous news slightly boosted CP+ expectations.

It is expected that EOS R1 will be released in the same way as EOS R3, with a development announcement and some information before the official launch.

In addition, the EOS R1 will have a "lower resolution than many people think". Over the past few months, Canonrumors has seen hints that the EOS R1 can't shoot 8K**, which makes it have a resolution that will be lower than the EOS R5's 45 million pixels.

Canonrumors doesn't think this will be a big problem because 8K isn't really widely available for a variety of reasons. That said, it is expected that the EOS R5 series will continue to feature 8K. For those shooting 8K, the EOS R5 or EOS R5C may have a better form factor (non-block camera) once you start assembling the body.

There is news that the EOS R5 Mark II could be a camera body released in the second half of 2024. Assuming that something big is going to happen, such as Canon launching a new machine like the Nikon Z 9 and Z 8, then there will be the "small" EOS R1.
