The Xiamen Marathon has come to a successful conclusion, the race is over the weekend, and she returns to work on weekdays, and Huang Xuemei's life rhythm seems to be no different from before.
However, the 2024 Xiamen Horse is really a little "different" for her. With the increasing popularity in the running circle, the company specially made a cheering board for her on the track, and the finishing result of 2:35:18 made her on the podium of the top three Chinese nationals in Xiamen for the first time.
Since Beijing ran out of 232 in 2023, the public discussion around Huang Xuemei has never stopped. Does talent matter? Good for natural endurance from a plateau background? Is it considered amateur if there is a training group? How can I have so much time to train at work? Why do you practice so hard?
With these questions, let's talk to Huang Xuemei——
Nine times Xiama
From enthusiasts to platform players.
From 2015 to 2024, Huang Xuemei has participated in the Xiamen Marathon nine times in the past ten editions. From the first time she started her first marathon here, to her later work and life in Xiamen, she has long regarded Xiamen Marathon as a must-run home race every year.
In the 2024 Xiamen Marathon, Huang Xuemei won the second place in 2 hours, 35 minutes and 18 seconds, second only to Zhang Deshun, who is the strongest in active service. Although she was three minutes away from her personal best, it was her best on the track and her first podium finish.
I was actually very scared before the race, because after running for so many years, the second half of the race collapsed very badly. This time, with the encouragement of my teammates and boyfriend, I ran according to the original plan of 3 minutes and 36 seconds. Although the pace was also lost in the back, it was much better than before, and I think I am very satisfied with the finish result. ”
Looking back at the split pace, her drops were mostly after 30km. The final finish was the seventh place in the competition and the second place in China. A runner from a pure amateur background reached the podium of the Chinese nationality in the platinum label event, which is a great achievement, and it also exceeds everyone's understanding of "amateur runners" in the past.
With the 232 of the North Marathon, as well as the frequent victories over professional team players in some full and half marathon races, everyone is not surprised by Huang Xuemei's ranking in the Xia Marathon. However, for her personal feelings, despite running nine times, this is a completely different Xiamen marathon.
"There were a lot of people cheering for me along the way, and the company also set up a big sign in the head office building to cheer me on, which was different from before. ”Huang Xuemei said.
From a public enthusiast to a public elite runner, this track in Xiamen has witnessed the progress of Huang Xuemei's ability and her running journey. In the city where I live, a very famous marathon, all the stories are connected.
My first horse was the 2015 Xiamen Marathon, and the finish time of 4 hours 01 minutes was an attempt. At that time, I didn't live in Xiamen, and I came here to participate in the college competition when I was studying in Nanjing. After running the 2015 Xiamen Marathon, I went to the company for an interview, and I successfully passed, and I have been working in Xiamen until today, which is of great significance to me in this city and this marathon. Huang Xuemei recalled.
Nine years of running.
From Shouma 401 to Beijing 232
Huang Xuemei's story has been reported by major sports and society, and she has also entered the field of vision of more and more runners.
Huang Xuemei from Zhaotong, Yunnan Province, in high school, began to treat running as a good thing in order to regulate the pressure of studying. Later, she was admitted to Southeast University, a 985 university majoring in software engineering. In a 3,000-meter race in college, her outstanding performance was discovered by the school's orienteering team and began to practice regularly.
However, after graduating in 2015, due to work reasons, after leaving the college environment, her running habit stagnated for two years, and it was not until 2017 that she "picked it up" again, and joined the Xiang'an Long-distance Running Association in 2021.
"After two years of work, I suddenly had spare time, and I didn't know what to do, so I would go to the stadium or go around the community or run on the treadmill of the company after work. ”
In 2017, when she first started running regularly, Huang Xuemei's monthly running volume was about 100 kilometers. After that, she joined a 5km jog in the morning and started running around 300km a month.
This gave her a good foundation of stamina, and due to her lack of volume and intensity, she never experienced injuries or lost her passion for running. However, due to the lack of intensity, her performance improvement hit a bottleneck.
In the past two years, the monthly running volume has been about 500 kilometers, and with the addition of interval training, the performance has also improved visibly. ”
Until the 2023 Beijing Marathon, which ran 2 hours, 32 minutes and 05 seconds, defeated a number of professional team runners and ranked third in China, ranking among the international athlete standards. Huang Xuemei was completely "seen" by the public.
From 4 hours 01 minutes to 2 hours 32 minutes in the first marathon, Huang Xuemei has been in contact with the marathon for nine years, and has trained regularly, and it has only been six years since she was full.
About training
In nine years, he has never been injured or sick.
This kind of training mode and results are no longer amateurish. ”
When I was a child, I must have had a foundation, and I must have practiced sports. ”
After Huang Xuemei ran to a certain level, different voices also appeared on the Internet. With such a huge improvement in a mass enthusiast, we are also eager to explore her training model and give more runners who are interested in improving their performance some references.
When asked how to arrange a day's work, life, and running, Huang Xuemei subconsciously replied that it was"Do you want to hear about overtime or non-overtime? ”
Because you need to go to work from Monday to Friday, and you need to work overtime from time to timeHuang Xuemei's training is generally arranged in the afternoon after work, and she practices every day.
If you already know that you have to work overtime in the afternoon, you choose to run first in the morning and work at night with peace of mind, and the training place is usually in the track and field. The training plan is made by senior seniors in the association, and it can also be regarded as my coach. Huang Xuemei said.
With one practice per day, her focus is on the week.
2. Week. 3. On Thursdays, the emphasis is on intensity, and on weekends for long distances, the emphasis is on endurance. The rest of the time is jogging.
"For example, on Tuesday, run a long interval, a 5-kilometer section, run at a marathon or half-marathon PB pace, and complete 3 sets of 5 kilometers. If it's a short interval, run 800 meters at a half-marathon pb pace, which will be 10-20 seconds faster than a half-marathon pb pace. The long distance on weekends is between 25-32 km, at different paces, and the slowest even runs 6 allotments, and it is rare to run long distances at a race-day pace. ”Huang Xuemei introduced her training arrangement.
During the interview, we learned a very important point, Huang Xuemei has never been injured due to sports fatigue in the six years of regular training, and the only time she was injured was because of wrestling in a cross-country race, which is very different from the situation of athletes who run to this level in professional teams.
Strength training is usually interspersed, but it is too late in the middle of the week to train and there is usually no time to train strength. On weekends, there will be some core training, leg strength, etc. I think strength training is still very important to prevent injuries. ”
Another point is sleep, she usually goes to bed around 10 o'clock at night, and no later than 11 o'clock. Depart for the office at 7:30 a.m. to ensure adequate sleep and recovery time.
Regarding the frequency of races, Huang Xuemei arranges 2-3 races in the whole marathon every year, and some half marathons are used as substitute training.
I don't usually leave Fujian to compete, and in fact, the frequency of competitions is not very high. Occasionally, I will run some 5km and 10km races of the general public, or half marathons around Xiamen. Huang Xuemei said.
*After Huang Xuemei's details of work, competitions, and training, she may be able to have some answers to the voices of netizens. Although her story and accomplishments are beyond many people's comprehension, running is not her full-time job, just a systematic workout in her spare time.
In terms of running volume, intensity, medical support, race status, etc., it is also a completely different mentality from professional teams and professional runners.
It's about mentality
Hobbies can soothe the heart.
In fact, a stable level of 235 can stand on the platform of many events, earn bonuses, sign more brand endorsements, and earn quite a lot, have you ever thought about being a full-time athlete? ”
When this question was thrown to Huang Xuemei, her answer was that she hadn't thought about it, she hadn't done it before, and she didn't run to the current level.
After all, I'm in my 30s, and it's a pity to give up after doing so many years of procedures. Now running and working at the same time is a rhythm that I like and can control, I enjoy the moment and I can adjust to it. Huang Xuemei said.
In Huang Xuemei's concept,First of all, running is a hobby, and secondly, race days are just a reflection of the usual training level, and PB is just a matter of course.
If you practice it in place, you will actually have some estimates of PB. So every time PB is happy but not particularly surprised, because I think it was all expected, it just showed the level of training and the form when it was playing. ”
With such a mentality, the good or bad grades will not bring her particularly great psychological pressure. Again, running is not her job. Even after a few days of rest, she began to turn running into a daily task.
Although Huang Xuemei does not define herself as an elite athlete, she has really attracted the attention of runners across the country.
I'm just an ordinary runner, and everyone's attention is still under pressure. But I also hope that my story can inspire others, and that's a good thing. Aside from talent and hard work, I hope that people can see from me that they like something, and try to keep doing it, maybe they will have a good harvest. It's not necessarily running, it's this spirit of perseverance. ”
In the new year 2024, Huang Xuemei made a good start with the Xiamen Marathon. She hopes that she will continue to break through in training and show in competitions.
The goal of the competition is to look at your usual training situation, and not to set specific statistics for yourself. If there is a breakthrough in the training process, we will consider going to the impact in the game. ”
Talking about her New Year's resolution, Huang Xuemei recounted her running philosophyThe game PB is just a demonstration of training.
At the end of the conversation with Huang Xuemei, her growth process, running career, and even training mode and daily life are very different from everyone's stereotype of the "elite" label athlete.
This is the understanding of running by a "marathon enthusiast" with the level of an "elite athlete", and she also interprets all this with her own actions. (Xtep Running).
