ZZ, an illustrator living in Shenzhen, decided to transform the 119 house into a retirement home for his mother. Due to the old room type and old decoration, the living experience is gradually declining, so she invited @Qiwu Design, hoping to achieve a better living environment through renovation.

ZZ currently lives with her mother, and as a freelancer, she needs a space where she can work independently. In addition, there are three adorable members of the family: two cats and a free-range tortoise. In addition to meeting the storage needs of old and new items, ZZ wanted the house to be simple, bright, comfortable, and full of art.

Problems with old houses before renovation.

The old house was originally a structure of three bedrooms, two living rooms and two bathrooms, and the living room was a special-shaped space, resulting in the dining room could only be arranged separately. Two rooms with bay windows block out the main light source, resulting in dark and narrow common areas and aisles. Although the master bedroom has a large balcony, it is poorly planned and has a low utilization rate.

Considering the current situation of mother and daughter living together, the renovation plan is to reserve a bedroom + a public bathroom for each of them, so as to remove the non-load-bearing wall and rearrange the open space pattern and the circulation line of the dynamic and static partitions.

Renovation highlights and highlights.

1. Spatial optimization of the living room: Open up the two small rooms at the aisle to form a new living room to improve lighting and ventilation and expand the field of vision. The design of the vaulted ceiling not only weakens the beam structure, but also retains the high ceiling height, creating a sense of grandeur and enhancing the visual effect.

2. The layout of dynamic and static partitions: The original living room is changed to a bedroom, and the two bedrooms are distributed at both ends of the house to form a dynamic and static partition. The corner space was transformed into a storage room, using the corner of the original living room to maximize the use of space.

3. Changes in the kitchen and bathroom: Re-plan the kitchen, adjust the direction of the door, and change the cabinet layout from L-shaped to U-shaped, which improves the space utilization. A bathroom was canceled, space was released, and a dining island and western kitchen were arranged, which improved practicality and quality of life.

4. Re-planning of bedroom balcony: The balcony area has been narrowed and divided into sleeping area and cloaking area to meet the needs of diverse activities.

In order to weaken the structure and retain the high ceiling height, a continuous arched ceiling was designed to give the space a sense of sacredness. The space is designed to be white, and through the clever rendering of natural light and lighting, the introduction of logs and artistic elements creates a simple and warm atmosphere.

The living room is laid out with functional furniture, forming a borderless leisure activity area. The floor at the bottom not only solves the problem of window sill height, but also provides storage and rest functions. Storage and cat activity areas are set up along the wall, and the cat climbing frame built by the capsule cat hole provides a world for pets.

The simple aesthetics of the space are combined with the Scandinavian style of suitability, so that the structure serves the function, and the function guides the lifestyle, presenting an enclosed, open and flexible leisure and living place. The arched ceiling runs through the dining room and aisles, with a curved design that brings playfulness, and built-in light strips and downlights create a warm and romantic atmosphere.

Sunlight shines gently through the white sheer curtains, and the light tones in the space add a warm and uncluttered feel. Geometric patterns on plants, carpets and pillows enrich the visual layering.

In order to maintain the continuity of the space, the master bedroom door adopts a white ** door plate. The arched ceiling extends to the dining room and aisles, creating a playful curved shape, with built-in light strips and downlights creating a warm and romantic atmosphere.

In order to overcome the limitations of the load-bearing structure of the kitchen, we eliminated the original secondary bathroom, thus expanding the area of the dining room and bringing more functions into this area.

On the light food counter, which is more than four meters long, we are equipped with baking appliances and kitchenware storage, while leaving space for cats to eat and move. The restaurant not only caters to the dining needs of the occupants, but also provides creative interaction and connection, and the form of the dining island adds more layers to the space.

Cement art paint gives the wall a natural and simple texture, which contrasts with the warm wood and forms a harmonious beauty. The white island is parallel to the structural beams, the gray wall connects the flat façade, and several dining chairs of different shapes are matched with flowers and paintings, creating a unique small landscape.

There is an air-conditioned space on the sideboard, and a shelf below is used to access dry goods and grains at any time. The dining table connected to the light food area adopts a rounded shape, and the white block surface overlaps the virtual and real, diluting the dividing line, and the natural and smooth lines outline the sense of dining ritual.

The Chinese kitchen avoids the interference of noise and oil smoke during stir-frying to the living room by changing the direction of the door, and the U-shaped cabinet makes full use of the storage space, and the 80-centimeter aisle becomes the daily activity area of the little turtle.

The zz room, which was converted from the original living room, is both a bedroom and a studio. The space is dominated by cream colors, and the use of light and materials creates a soft cloud-like atmosphere.

ZZ's bedroom uses a variety of light source settings, including wall lamps on the dressing table, bedside chandeliers, and linear lights on the walls and ceilings, to meet the lighting needs of different scenes. The creamy space is paired with modern metal and stone, and the rounded shape creates a sophisticated texture.

The clothes storage at the head and foot of the bed has reached 44m, the space is square, which effectively improves the utilization rate. ZZZ's favorite cheese chair and paintings on the dressing table add personality to the space.

The balcony is mainly used for the storage of painting tools and the display of figures, and the arched pass transition weakens the special-shaped bevel and connects the working painting area and the sleeping area. Considering that ZZ needs to face the computer for a long time, we set up a sit-stand desk to achieve more flexible adjustment and a more comfortable state.

The master bedroom is dedicated to the aunt, and the arc structure creates an end view. The static characters, greenery and light and shadow effects in the space work together to create a zen atmosphere, adding to the tranquility and indifference of the space.

The curved structure not only carries the space, but also acts as a transitional ritual, and the interior continues the gentle tone of cream white. The ceiling and bed screen are reserved for light troughs, and through the transparent chandelier, multiple atmospheres are realized.

By adjusting the position of the wardrobe, we created a spacious walking space. The wooden structure of the bedside table extends to the windowsill to increase the storage surface. According to the aunt's viewing needs, a TV wall is set at the foot of the bed to form an internal space separation from the wardrobe, which improves the practicality.

The arched ceiling continues the public space, and the white shape wraps the storage façade. The cloakroom has storage cabinets on three sides, which can fully accommodate the aunt's clothes.

There are window openings on the balcony to bring in light through Changhong glass, where the aunt can use a computer or calligraphy.

The renovated bathroom space is made into three separations, taking into account the needs of storage and pets. The rice and litter boxes are reserved, while the round hole under the wall makes it easy for the cats to enter and exit.

The shower and toilet area are shared by a sliding door, saving space and meeting daily needs.

With the clever combination of designers, the two women jointly created a comfortable and lazy new home atmosphere, satisfying the comfort of their daughter's office and the comfort of their mother's retirement.
