According to the Mexican newspaper Millennium on February 16, Colombian architect and writer Juan Sebastián Maroquin, the son of the famous drug lord Pablo Escobar, held a lecture on the 16th for young people from Monterrey, Nuevo León, in northern Mexico, to advise them to stay away from drugs and crime.
In a lecture entitled "Pablo Escobar: A History That Doesn't Repeat Itself," the 47-year-old Maroquin said that the "Narcos" series of films and television has confused young people and peddled unrealistic fantasies about the world of drug lords.
He mentioned that his father was an ambitious man who did not respect the life of anyone who stood in his way. However, he decided not to carry on his father's legacy anymore and to change his life and even his identity to create his own story.
Today, Marokin is an architect, industrial designer, writer, pacifist, and lecturer. He said his life had changed completely.
The mayor of Monterrey stressed that young people in Mexico are increasingly besieged by drugs. This type of lecture is able to provide useful information for young people, and by learning about the experiences of people like Sebastian, they can know that they should not repeat the path of crime.
