In 2003, calligrapher and painter Liu Guoyu decided to establish a poetry and calligraphy academy in Wengyuan County, Shaoguan, where he lived and created.
This year, Liu Guoyu was 63 years old.
His decision was opposed by almost everyone.
One is that there is no money. Liu Guoyu is just a poor painter living in seclusion in northern Guangdong, living in a cramped place, and laughing at himself as "Jingguan Ju". And to build a painting academy, it will cost at least a few million. Where does the money come from? Moreover, where does the daily operation and maintenance expenses come from?
Second, there is no one. Liu Guoyu is not a company, and he does not have an operation team ......
Third, we can't see the future. Wengyuan is just a remote and impoverished county in northern Guangdong, with long mountains and rivers, who will come to see the exhibition? How to develop? You don't see a future.
But Liu Guoyu could see it.
In the eyes of outsiders, the "remote and poor county" is a famous area of humanities and culture in the eyes of Liu Guoyu. About 5 kilometers away from the Wengshan Poetry and Painting Institute, there is the site of the great poet Shao Yu of the Tang Dynasty who studied in the past; At the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, a generation of great Confucian Qu Dajun, after coming here, he loved it so much that he changed the word 'Weng Shan';Nanhua Temple is next to it, and Zhang Jiuling is from the nearby Qujiang ......In his opinion, this is the best place.

With a total construction area of more than 9,000 square meters, Wengshan Poetry and Painting Institute is one of the largest pure public welfare art institutions established by artists in Lingnan with self-financing.

Liu Guoyu did everything he could for this.
People found that this poetry, calligraphy and painting institute did not bear the personal name of "Liu Guoyu". A huge calligraphy and painting institute is not "Liu Guoyu Poetry and Painting Academy", but "Wengshan Poetry and Painting Academy".
Everyone was amazed.
Regarding everyone's doubts, Liu Guoyu always smiled faintly. His idea is that as for "Weng Mountain", it is not just the location of the painting academy, and it also bears the weight of humanities and history. The name of Mount Gayon is not greater than that of the giant river, and its cultural karma is enough to make him hesitate to look sideways. The chronicle contains: "King Zhou sealed his son in Wengshan, because of his surname. Zhang Wenwen Gong was born in the north of the mountain, Shao Tai was a student in the south of the mountain, Mei Zhongcheng was born in the west of the mountain, Qu Dajun traveled in the east of the mountain, and the ancestors of famous sages such as Yang Wanli, Yu Wuxi, and Liu Shu all left deeds and inscribed in Fang Zhi.

Stepping into the main entrance of the painting academy, there are 32 poems of Shao Yu's posthumous poems included in "All Tang Poems", all of which are decorated with high walls, and the Tang style of Guyi is steeply seen, and the atmosphere is magnificent.
In the conference room on the fourth floor, important passages from the Four Books and Five Classics are impressively lined up on the walls. Among them, the chapter on "University" is particularly conspicuous.

After ten years of Wengshan Poetry and Painting Academy, Liu Guoyu wrote another couplet: "Ten years of sharpening the sword and thinking about the Taoist veins of the thousand autumns; A corner of the cone is full of thousands of miles of rivers and mountains. Whether Nixon said this is not possible for the time being. But Liu Guoyu's ambition and responsibility are fully revealed.
Why is this happening?
Liu Guoyu said: The reason why China has become China and why the Chinese nation has been able to stand tall in the world for 5,000 years without being destroyed is that it is nurtured by the milk of culture and supported by the spirit of culture; the ancient classics of literature and history in Chinese studies, poetry, calligraphy, and painting are the essence of national culture, and are the spiritual pillars and national characteristics of the Chinese nation standing proudly among the nations of the world; the learning of the Chinese is that there is no separation between literature and history and philosophy; the artistic elegance of the Chinese is the fusion of poetry, calligraphy and painting, poetry must have the artistic conception of painting, and painting must have the meaning of poetry. The spirit of calligraphy cannot be missing, and calligraphy can be called the quintessence of the country, and it is the most Chinese art formed by the development and evolution of Chinese characters on which Chinese culture depends. Liu Guoyu has been short of money for a long time.
In the economically underdeveloped mountainous area, it goes without saying that the funds needed to build this functional and elegant building are expensive, and it is necessary to maintain the normal operation of an administrative staff with a president, vice president, office director, clerks, editors, and a group of guards, cleaners, security guards, cooks, water and electricity maintenance workers, and so on. Liu Guoyu's painting style is unique, which is different from the Lingnan School of painting; At the same time, there is also a gap with the so-called "traditional traditionalism"; It is even more distant from the so-called "modern landscapes" that are like trees without roots and water without sources.
Some people say that Liu Guoyu is a "vibator" in the art world for three reasons.
One is mindfulness. Liu Guoyu attaches great importance to the "Taoist system", and also attaches great importance to the academic system. Fundamentally, it can uplift the art world.
The second is righteousness. Liu Guoyu's style is unrestrained and unrestrained, which is very different from the general feminine pattern of current landscape painting.

Those who follow Liu Guoyu include poets, calligraphers, painters, or those who are good at both, Liu Guoyu believes that they are all "people who are stoic and persistent". And invite knowledgeable and talented people at home and abroad to get acquainted with Weng Mountain, grind Han ink between the sound of the stream and the bamboo shadow, and promote the road in the place where the cars and horses are not noisy.
Liu Guoyu is deeply proud of the fact that he is not only a class, he is not only a scholar, he is not only a virtuous person, there are cultivators from the field, and there are masters from the end of the world, "he is determined to be in the Tao, according to virtue, according to benevolence, and he is in the arts".
From the obscure mountain courtyard to today's Lingnan Art Highland, Wengshan Poetry and Painting Institute, the ideal is still lofty, and the academic positioning is becoming clearer and clearer, and the academic pace is becoming more and more determined.
