Is there a problem with your printer? Some Windows users say that their printers pause periodically and then stop printing. In this article, we will discuss the ways to fix the printer status as "Paused", "Unable to Continue". This applies to all versions of Windows, including Windows 11 and Windows 10.
When your printer doesn't work for a while, it means that the device goes into pause or sleep mode. The printer may be paused due to settings on the printer, or other issues may be related to the printer. With the Printer Pause option, you can manually change or change any job during the operation. When you're done printing a job, you can re-enable the Pause Print option and resume printing. When the printer is in paused mode, you can only complete scanning tasks on the printer.
There can be several reasons why a printer is in Paused mode. The most common cause of this error is hardware. More reasons are:
Damaged USB cable.
The spooler software is malfunctioning.
Printer software and drivers are outdated.
Paper jam. The cartridge does not work.
Follow the steps given below to easily unpause the printer state:
1. Go to Start, search for the Control Panel and open it.
2. Click Hardware & Sound, and select View Device & Printer.
3. Double-click the printer that pauses printing, click "Printer" in the menu, and then uncheck "Pause Printing".
Disable pausing printing
If your printer status indicates that it is paused, the first thing you must do is resume it. You can follow the given steps to do it.
1. Open Windows Settings (Win+i) and go to Bluetooth & Devices.
2. Click on "Printers & Scanners" and then click on the "Open Print Queue" option.
3. Click the "Printer" menu at the top of the window, and then uncheck "Pause Printing".
Now, restart your computer and printer and see if the issue is resolved.
Restart the Spooler service
Alternatively, you can try starting or restarting the Spooler service to resolve the issue. You need to follow these steps to resolve this issue:
1. Go to Start, type the service, and open it when it appears, navigate to the print spooler.
2. Right-click on it, then click "Start" (if it has stopped) and "Stop" (if it is working).
3. When the service is disabled, you must restart your computer and then restart the spooler to check if the problem persists.
Use the printer troubleshooter.
If none of the above works, try running the Printer troubleshooter. This tool is a built-in feature of Windows and can usually fix most issues on its own. Here are some steps to access the printer troubleshooter.
1. Press win+i to open the settings.
2. Click Devices >> Printers & Scanners.
3. Now, click on Run Troubleshooter.
4. Then it scans, and if it finds a problem, ask you to apply this fix or skip this fix.
Select the app and wait for the process to complete and see if the problem persists.
Reinstall the printer driver
It's best to try reinstalling the printer driver. You need to follow these steps to do this simply:
1. Enter the Start menu and open Device Manager.
2. Double-click the printer queue to expand it.
3. Now, right-click on the printer and click on Uninstall Device.
4. You can also right-click on the print queue and select Scan to detect hardware changes to reinstall the driver.
You can also update the latest version of the driver from OEM***. Also, try disconnecting and reconnecting the printer and see if it resolves the issue.
The print spooler method allows you to send a large or batch of documents to a printer at once without waiting for the current task to complete. It is similar to a buffer or cache. Once the last print job is complete, you can assemble the document and prepare it for printing here.
1. Go to the Start icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
2. Select Control Panel and click Devices & Printers.
3. Right-click on the printer in question and select "View Prints".
4. Select "Printer" from the menu bar at the top, and select "Use Printer Online" from the drop-down menu of the window that opens.
An offline message on the printer indicates that it has a problem communicating with the computer. There can be many reasons for this, including printer issues, connection issues, and more.
1. Go to the Start menu and select Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
2. Then select "Printer" to open the queue.
3. Click "Printer" at the top and make sure the "Use Printer Offline" option is not selected.
An outdated printer driver may result in a "Printer Not Responding" message. However, you can fix this issue by simply updating the printer's drivers. The easiest way to do this is through Device Manager. If your printer has a driver available, Windows will try it. If it doesn't work, there may be a hardware issue and you need to connect with a service center.
