John Patrick McEnroe, JrBorn on February 16, 1959 in Wiesbaden, Germany, is an American former professional tennis player. Known for his unique serve-and-net play, excellent technique at the net and passionate performance on the court, he was once the world No. 1 in ATP singles and doubles.

McEnroe began playing tennis at the age of 8, and his tennis skills were honed at the Douglaston Club and the Port Washington Tennis Academy on Long Island. In 1977, he won his first career men's singles title at the French Open, and in the same year he teamed up with his teammates to win the senior mixed doubles title. In 1978, McEnroe entered Stanford University, where he led the Cardinals to the NCAA Division I national championship and turned professional that same year.
