yearsJanuary 31News,Infineon Technologies AG (FSE**: IFX OTCQX**: IFNNY), a global leader in semiconductors for power systems and IoT, has teamed up with device manufacturer O'Mys Microelectronics and TOF-technical specialist PMDContology to develop a new high-resolution camera solution that provides enhanced depth sensing and 3D scene understanding for a new generation of intelligent consumer robots. This new hybrid TOF solution combines two depth sensing concepts to help significantly reduce the maintenance effort and costs of intelligent robots.
Infineon's Real3 flexible TOF sensor technology combines existing high-resolution ITOF flood illumination and DTOF long-range point illumination into a single hybrid TOF camera. For many years, this high-resolution technique has been used to observe and bypass small objects in the robot's path of motion. Now, by adding accurate long-range spot data, you can also create an accurate 3D map of the surrounding area, enabling an intelligent path planning experience that empowers the next generation of robotic vacuum cleaners.
This new solution replaces the top-mounted laser rangefinder (LDS), reducing the height of the robot vacuum cleaner by 20%-30%, allowing the robot to clean under furniture with small clearances from the ground. With a size of only 31x16x8 mm, the hybrid TOF camera requires less space to optimize mapping and obstacle avoidance. Hybrid TOF replaces multiple sensors and eliminates the need to install moving parts that wear out, reducing system and operating costs.
The solution is easy to deploy and provides a user-friendly experience for customers. This compact, hybrid TOF solution is versatile and rugged enough to meet the growing demand for mobile consumer robotic devices in a wide range of industries, including robot vacuum cleaners, commercial robots, air purifiers, dimensional measurements, and more.
Andreas Kopetz, Vice President of the Environmental Sensing Product Line at Infineon Technologies, said: "The cooperation between Infineon and Ander Technologies and O'AMS Microelectronics is an example of how Infineon and its partners can work together to promote technological innovation and digitalization. With a wide range of uses, our hybrid TOF solutions address the fast-growing consumer robotics market, enabling customers to design unique robots and reduce system cost and complexity by replacing multiple cameras with one camera. ”
Xiao Detang, General Manager of Jiangxi OMS Microelectronics***, said: "The hybrid TOF of Infineon and Paiande Technology uses an innovative patented architecture with a dual lighting system. For manufacturers like O'mais, the solution offers outstanding advantages, such as small size, low power consumption, and reduced overall application costs. "We are excited to further enhance the competitiveness of hybrid TOF cameras with this unique optical design that avoids multipath issues and combines precise positioning with obstacle avoidance." ”
