IT Home News on January 10, today, Apple whistleblower and prototype collector Kosutami released a ** film, which allegedly shows what Apple originally envisioned two and a half years before the release of the MagSafe charger, giving us a glimpse of the design story behind this accessory.
The MagSafe prototype was produced in March 2017 at a critical stage of development for Apple's AirPower wireless charging pad. At the time, MagSafe and AirPower seemed to be being developed in parallel.
IT House noticed that this early version had the following differences compared to the MagSafe we are now familiar with:
a rubber case that feels like a HomePod dock;
rounded edges;
The magnets are arranged differently and the poles are opposite;
The dimensions are about the same as the final version, but noticeably thinner;
The design language is more retro, with a lot of white rubber and the Apple logo more eye-catching.
The Airpower project was aborted in March 2019, but instead of abandoning MagSafe development, Apple revisited and restarted the project. Eventually, in October 2020, Apple launched the now familiar MagSafe with the iPhone 12 with the iPhone 12, featuring a thicker silver aluminum alloy case with stiffer edges and the removal of the Apple logo.
Kosutami, the MagSafe charger currently on sale, has previously shared various Apple charger prototypes, including a fully functional AirPower charging pad, different color versions of the MagSafe charger, and an unreleased "magic charger" accessory.
