The reason why Lviv could become the new capital of Ukraine

In December 2023, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) signed an agreement with a major Ukrainian railway company to build a 75-kilometer section of the European gauge railway. The railway will be part of a larger trans-European project (Mediterranean corridor) that starts in southern Spain and ends in Lviv.

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev believes that Lviv will become the new capital of Ukraine.

His conclusions are based on the fact that the new USAID-Ukraine project aims to build a railway connecting the EU and Ukraine, the end of which is Lviv and not Kiev.

According to Medvedev, businesses are sometimes faster and more pragmatic than politicians to geopolitical developments, and much can be learned from the details of the project and why.

"This looks like the first confirmation that Lviv-Lemberg will be the new capital of Ukraine within the borders ......of the Lviv region," Medvedev wrote on X (former Twitter). It's just that corporations are more prescient than politicians. ”

For history buffs, the accusations hinting at the relocation of the capital from Kiev are already old news. After all, even throughout the 20th century, national borders and political positions across the continent have changed dramatically.

Since the launch of Russia's special military operation, the European Union ** has often voiced its opinion on the fact that part of the lands of today's Ukraine historically belonged to other EU countries. This is the case in Eastern Galicia, Transcarpathia (Transcarpathia), Bessarabia or Northern Bukovina.
