The Chen Sheng and Wu Guang uprisings were famous peasant uprisings in Chinese history, which occurred in the last years of the Qin Dynasty and were the first large-scale uprising in Chinese history led by peasant uprisings against the exploitation and oppression of the ruling class.

After the death of Qin Shi Huang, there were more and more large-scale war guerrilla warfare and peasant uprisings due to the political struggle within the Qin Dynasty. In 209 BC, Chen Sheng and Wu Guang took advantage of the chaos of the situation and led more than 3,000 peasants to revolt in Zhuo County, proclaimed themselves "peasant kings", and started an anti-Qin uprising. According to the "Historical Records", Chen Sheng is a descendant of Chen Xian, originally from the Chen State, and Wu Guang is a native of the Wu State. They first rebelled along the coast, but more and more peasants joined them. Their uprising was huge, conquering Zhuojun, Lianhe and other places one after another, and soon grew in power. Not only did they lead the peasant masses to crack down on the new Qin county officials and gradually expand their activities to other regions, but they also created impostors, disguised themselves as Qin Dynasty troops, and used the identities of Qin Dynasty officials to loot and expand the secret ranks.

Chen Sheng and Wu Guang's manifesto of the uprising clearly put forward the program of abolishing exorbitant taxes and miscellaneous taxes, dividing land equally, and abolishing slavery, which won the active support of the peasant masses. As a result, their uprising soon occupied large areas and made the Qin dynasty feel greatly threatened. In the Jianghuai area, the peasant uprising led by the rebel army of Chen Sheng and Wu Guang spread more and more. It is conceivable that this was a harbinger of the end of the Qin Dynasty rulers who monopolized the system during the Qin Shi Huang period.

Although Chen Sheng and Wu Guang achieved some victories in a short period of time, by 208 BC their power was wiped out by the Qin army. Chen Sheng and Wu Guang** were escorted to Xianyang, and as the final rebels, they were personally executed by Qin Shi Huang. In this failed uprising, tens of thousands of rebellious peasants' homes were plunged into the tragedy of destroying their homes, and thousands of peasants were executed. It was a desperate revolt against the exploitation of feudal serfdom. This uprising showed the desire and strength of the oppressed and exploited peasant masses to resist and overthrow the oppression of the ruling class, and at the same time made the former Qin rulers begin to realize the danger of the situation in the country that was violently torn apart at that time. For later revolutionaries, the historical significance of Chen Sheng and Wu Guang lies in the fact that they set an example for the liberation of the Chinese peasants.
