Create Tools with ModelBuilder Part2

Mondo Technology Updated on 2024-02-04

Perform the appropriate steps in Executing Tools in ModelBuilder. In the beginning, this tutorial also uses the same model.

Figure 45 The model created in Chapter 3.

If you previously saved the model, right-click the model to open it, and then selectEdit。If the model is saved after it was run in the Tutorial for Executing Tools in ModelBuilder, there may be drop-down shadows around the model features. To remove a drop-down shadow, click on the ModelBuilder toolbarValidate the entire modelButton.

to validate the entire model.

Double-clickTable of ContentsExample model in the window. The tool dialog box opens, but no parameters are displayed, as shown in the following image.

Figure 46 Variables are not set as parameters.

If you clickOKto run the tool, the model is run. Even if it is selected for the output variableAdd to display, the output of the model (clippedfc) is also not added to ArcMap's table of contents. The reason for this is that it is ignored when you run the model through the model's tool dialogAdd to displaySet up. To add an output to a display, you must have the output variable as a model parameter.

Another reason to create model parameters is that you want to run the model with different input data without having to open ModelBuilder every time, as shown in the following image.

Figure 47 The Effect of Creating Model Parameters.

Once the model parameters are created, the model can be executed through the model's tool dialog boxinput roadsbuffer distanceinput vegetationoutput clipped feature classwithxy toleranceParameters provide different inputs. You don't need to open ModelBuilder every time you run the model, you can use the tool dialog box instead. Another advantage of running a model through the model's tool dialog is that it will be used in theResultswindow, and running the model inside ModelBuilder does notResultswindow.

The following steps display the model variables as parameters so that they appear as shown above in the Model Tools dialog box.
