IT Home reported on February 10 that Samsung Electronics recently announced that the sleep apnea function on the Samsung Health Monitoring App has been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is the first time the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized such a feature, following approval by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) last October.

According to presentation, the sleep apnea feature will enable users over the age of 22 who have not been diagnosed with sleep apnea to detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a common chronic sleep condition that is often undiagnosed and **, during a two-night monitoring period. In order to use the feature, users can simply track their sleep twice in a ten-day period for a duration of more than four hours.

OSA causes people to stop breathing while sleeping, often leading to disruption of oxygen**, decreased sleep quality, and daytime fatigue. Untreated sleep apnea increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and stroke.

According to the National Sleep** Society (NSF), about 25% of men and 10% of women in the United States have OSA. The new features on the Samsung Health Monitoring app are expected to help more people proactively detect moderate or severe OSA and seek medical care as a result to reduce the likelihood of health-related complications.

At present, Samsung has not revealed whether this feature will be compatible with older Galaxy Watches, and interested friends can pay attention to the follow-up report of IT Home.
