Andreas Mihawitz reluctantly set this record in 1979. He was an apprentice mason in Bregenz, Austria, and he was a passenger (ironically) in the car that had an accident on April 1. Andreas was wrongfully arrested and put in prison.
Three policemen forgot about him. Each of them thought that the other had already released Andreas.
They also ignored Andrés's mother, who feared the disappearance of her son and repeatedly pointed it out. Because Andreas's cell was in the basement, no one could hear his screams.
He began to lick condensation from the walls of his cell. Eighteen days later, he was finally found because of the foul stench coming from his cell, which some ** noticed and were looking for the origin of the hoax.
Andreas lost 24 kilograms. It took him a few weeks to recover and, two years after the incident, he was awarded around 18,200 euros in compensation in a civil lawsuit.
To this day, the young Austrian still holds the world record for complete fasting.
