Commentary
Chapter 22 of the Tao Te Ching says: "If you don't see yourself, you know; is not self-sufficient, so it is revealed; If you don't cut yourself, you have merit; Not self-conscious, so long. Chapter 24 also says: "Those who see themselves do not know, those who are self-righteous do not show themselves, those who cut themselves down have no merit, and those who are self-conscious do not grow long." Therefore, we must not be self-conscious, not arrogant, not self-righteous, not self-defeating.
Those who know themselves know, and those who have self-knowledge do not express themselves; Self-loving people know their weakness, so they are not arrogant; Self-confident people have mastered the principle of wisdom generation, so they will be humb, listen more and talk less, dare to accept different opinions, and will not close themselves, so they are not self-conscious; Self-humility is a virtue, and no matter how good a person is, he has shortcomings, so when he achieves something, he does not dare to cut himself.
