Cairo, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's ** Sisi said on February 6 that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) plays a key role in providing humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.
The Egyptian government issued a statement on the 6th, saying that Sisi met with visiting US Secretary of State Blinken in the capital Cairo on the same day, and the two sides discussed issues such as ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip and providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. During the talks, el-Sisi highlighted Egypt's efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip in cooperation with the United Nations and other relief agencies, noting that UNRWA has a key role to play.
Blinken said that the United States supports the strategic partnership with Egypt and the role Egypt plays in promoting regional peace and stability. The United States will continue to coordinate with Egypt to prevent the conflict in the Gaza Strip from expanding.
The statement said that during the talks, the two sides discussed the need for a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue to ensure lasting stability.
