Got an offer:
M.S. in Quantitative Analysis, Columbia University.
The teachers of the Zhiyou team have fulfilled a common wish, which is to send a couple of students to Columbia University together! At the beginning, we were pleasantly surprised that the girl got the offer from Columbia, but unfortunately the boy was put on the waiting list at the beginning, but Zhiyou's teachers and students did not give up. I have dreamed of a beautiful outcome for everyone from Zhiyou teachers to students.
About targeting
Student H:
On the whole, I think the background of the two of us is okay in all aspects, but there are also obvious shortcomings, such as not taking the TOEFL, no scientific research experience, and unsatisfactory GRE scores. In the end, we chose QMSS from Columbia University, which is really a very satisfactory result for us, and we are very grateful to every teacher at Zhiyou for their dedication when we applied for it.
Student G:
It is very important to be clear about where you stand and what you want for the future. As the saying goes, a good start is half the battle, and when you've decided what you want, a lot of things follow naturally. For example, you have to think for yourself, what do you want to study in graduate school? What do you want to do in the future? Do you want to find a job in the U.S. or return to your home country in the future? The answer to each question also determines the difference in the target university you choose. In fact, all the questions above are the questions that Teacher Du asked us one by one after we met him.
About school selection
Student H:
I applied for about a dozen programs. Because our future plan is to return to China for development, we prefer universities with relatively high comprehensive rankings. I think it's good to choose 10-15 projects in the application, and among these options, there are probably three or four so-called "sprint" projects and three or four so-called "guaranteed" projects. When choosing a program, it's important to have a general idea of it: Do you need a TOEFL? Accept GRE GMAT? How many rounds are there? What is the application deadline? What is the average grade point of admitted students in previous years? Wait a minute. Although these data will also be presented on the official website of the project, Zhiyou's teachers can help us from a more systematic and comprehensive perspective. I remember when we met Mr. Du for the first time, he wrote down all the schools I could apply to and introduced them one by one, helping me analyze them from a global perspective. At that time, the teacher gave us a very careful and professional feeling and made me feel a sense of enlightenment, which is a very important reason why I chose Zhiyou!
Student G:
At the beginning of the school selection, I had no idea at all, no clear goal, no in-depth understanding, here I am really grateful for the first meeting with the teachers of the Zhiyou team in Beijing, Mr. Du listed the various gradient schools for us in detail, explained to us the development trend of the school major and the future employment direction, I really realized the good intentions and professionalism of the teachers, since then, I have generally determined the direction I want to apply, and I took BA as a sprint in the application process, With the economics major as the guarantee, the school selection is divided into three grades according to the school and major. In addition to the help of Zhiyou teachers, I recommend that the younger students refer to the suggestions of the teachers, and at the same time, they also list an excel**, record the school and major they want to go to, go to the official website of each school to understand and record it in detail, and at the same time, it is also recommended to go to various forums, such as: one acre and three points of land, chasedream, to see what other students know about the school, as well as the background of the seniors, the experience of choosing a school and admission results for further screening.
About the instrument
Student H: When you and other students have similar standardized scores, the essay is the best to make you stand out**. A good essay will make admissions officers more impressed with you, which will naturally increase your chances of admission. Mr. Xiao is my essay teacher, and I really think Zhiyou's essay is very good. For example, she successfully combined my internship experience with my background, and highlighted my different focuses for each project, so that each school's essay was different. In my opinion, the preparation of the essay still mainly depends on the communication between you and the essay teacher. Two people should understand each other, trust each other, and it is not difficult to write an essay of their own.
Student G:
I have some special experiences about the paperworkI think when you write a school essay, you should think carefully about your background, and what does the internship and research project fit with the school and major you are applying for, not a general description of your backgroundInstead, extract some very specific examples that match your personal characteristics. In the process of applying for essays, Mr. Deng gave me a lot of guidance and suggestions, and also provided me with a lot of inspiration, and I think that communication with the essay teacher is also very important, and I must form a tacit understanding with the essay teacher in order to write better and more distinctive exclusive essays.
About the application
Student H:
When I first applied to the first few schools, I was very cautious and had various problems, and I would keep asking the teacher how to solve various situations. But later on, you will find that the application system for all programs is the same, and as long as you keep your confidence, there shouldn't be too many problems.
Student G:
Although the application process is a test of care and patience, I have a very important experience to tell youReally remind the younger students not to procrastinate and meet deadlines !!When the standardized results and all items are ready, fill in the online application in advance, carefully check every detail before submitting, and prepare for the interview in advance if you receive the interview!
About the exam
Student H:
Because my score on the test is not very high, I will not introduce my study method. However, it is important to try to get out as early as possible!! I just missed some applications because I was too late in getting my grades. I think the summer vacation of the junior year to the senior year is a very suitable time to sprint to study for the GRE, and there is still a great chance of getting excellent results after a period of systematic study and a lot of practice. Another point is that you must have a stable mind during the exam and don't put too much pressure on yourself. Sometimes a relaxed mind can lead to unexpected scores.
Student G:
When I look back on the whole application process, I really feel that the standardized test was the part of the application process that I regretted the most. I didn't start preparing for the GRE until I was about to apply, I really used up 5 opportunities, and it wasn't until February that I got a score that I could really apply for, because of the GRE problem, I missed the application of several schools, and because of the pressure of the coexistence of GRE, academics, and applications, I didn't have time to prepare for the TOEFL, and I had to give up a few projects that I particularly liked.
So I really really recommend that younger students don't delay when they have the idea of applying for graduate school! Work hard to prepare for the standardized exams first! Don't let yourself be left with regrets!
Conclusion
Student H:
Looking back on my experience of applying for graduate school now, it may also be a growing experience. It will make you know more about yourself and it will also allow you to meet more friends. Throughout the process, you will feel the tangle of choice, the anxiety of waiting, and the joy of receiving the offer. During this period, I am also very grateful for the company and encouragement of Zhiyou teachers. I think students should be fully prepared for graduate school applications, face them positively, and finally wait with peace of mind. Finally, I hope that everyone can receive an offer from their dream school and get better and better in the future!
Student G:
I have always felt that the application process is the precursor to the direction of life, and this process prepares us to face the future, which is where the dream begins.
I sincerely wish the younger students of Zhiyou to gain more life experience and insights in the process of applying, find their own life direction and goals, and harvest their favorite offer !!
I wish you all a bright future and flowers all the way!
