The Royal Marines have redesigned their fleet of offshore assault boats (ORC) to modernize after two decades of service, the Defense Post said on February 22.

The vessels, renamed Commando Assault Boats (CRCs), have been completely revamped to incorporate newer technology in squad coastal landing missions.

The CRC is equipped with updated engines that allow it to travel at 40 knots (46 miles and 74 km/h) and have a range of 230 miles (370 km).

They have also been reconfigured with updated masts, trim, cooling systems, and electronics packages to improve stealth, mobility, communications, and navigation.

The CRC is currently deploying executive operations to join Task Force 47 of Commando 539 and Task Force (South) of the Mediterranean Coast Response Group.

Despite the fact that the upgrade of the raid boat was an "extended life", the British commandos worked on the development of a newer vessel to replace the ORC, CRC and aging landing craft.

Major Joe Brown, a member of the commando procurement team, said the Marine Corps took the opportunity to develop newer vessels by retrofitting the hulls in service, "which is an example of developing the future by maximizing the potential of existing capabilities." ”
