India's Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved a huge deal worth Rs 200 billion to buy 200 BrahMos missiles for the Indian Navy, according to the Indian Organisers Network on February 22.
The deal was approved at a Feb. 21 meeting. BrahMos Aerospace and India's Ministry of Defence are likely to sign the contract in the first week of March.
The deal will boost the Indian Navy's firepower and enhance its capabilities. BrahMos missiles are used in anti-ship and attack operations and have always been the main. BrahMos Aerospace is an Indian-Russian joint venture established in 1998 by DRDO and Mashinostroyeniya to produce supersonic cruise missiles that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft and land platforms.
