Recently, JD Power released the 2024 Automotive Reliability Rating, which lists the most reliable car brands and models. In the ranking of brands, the top two places are occupied by Lexus and Toyota, with Buick in third place, which is unlikely to surprise anyone, and surprisingly, the results of the study show that electric vehicles cause significantly more trouble for owners than gasoline models.

As cars become more complex and functional, JD Power has been refining its rating methodology, surveying 184 potential problems with cars, which are grouped into nine categories: air conditioning, driver assistance, driving experience, appearance, ergonomics (switches, screens, joysticks, etc.), multi** systems, interior, powertrain, seats.

The 2024 JD Power Auto Reliability Rating, based on a survey of 30,595 U.S. car owners (3 years of vehicle), records the number of problems owners have experienced since purchasing their car. Based on their answers, a PP100 rating is formed, which is the number of problems found per 100 cars, with smaller PP100 values and fewer problems.

Below are the brand reliability ratings. Note that the average PP100 index has risen compared to last year, from 186 to 190, that is, in general, the reliability of the car has become poor.

For the second year in a row, Lexus has been ranked high in reliability ratings. In 2022, the first place was occupied by the Kia brand, but now it has fallen back to eighth place, and the increase in the number of questions is larger, with Kia's PP100 index at 145 in 2022, 152 in 2023, and 187 in 2024, with a significant increase in the number of questions.

The Hyundai brand finished third in 2022 with a PP100 index of 145 and slipped to the bottom half of the ranking two years later, with a PP100 index of 198 in 2024, which is below average. Another South Korean brand, the premium brand of Hyundai Group, Genesis, which once topped the spear (fourth in 2022) and now ranks lower than Nissan, has a PP100 index of 200, which is below average.

In addition, over the past few years, Ford, Lincoln, and Volkswagen have dropped significantly in terms of reliability, but the Mini brand managed to make it into the top five. Chevrolet is a close second behind Buick, with the PP100 in fourth place, along with the mini, in sixth and seventh place, respectively, ahead of Kia and BMW (ninth).

Jd Power also lists the most reliable models in the United States, and the Porsche 718 Roadster was named the most reliable car this year by JD Power experts. Last year, the honorary title was won by the Lexus RX and Toyota C-HR, and in 2022, the honorary title was won by the Porsche 911.

The parent company that has won the most awards in the segment (by small SUV or sedan, midsize SUV or sedan, luxury SUV or sedan, etc.) is:Toyota Motor Corporation,There are nine models in total: Lexus ES, Lexus IS, Lexus NX, Lexus RX, Toyota 4runner, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Tacoma, and Toyota Tantu. General MotorsThe Buick Encore, Chevrolet Equinox, Chevrolet TR**erse and Chevrolet Tahoe won four segment awards. BMWThe BMW X1 and BMW X6 won two segment awards.

The latest JD Power reliability ratings show an average PP100 index of 187 for petrol cars, 191 for hybrids, 216 for plug-in hybrids, and 256 for electric vehicles. This is a rather unexpected result, as many automakers assure consumers that electric vehicles are simpler and more reliable environmentally friendly models. According to a study by JD Power, EV owners are most likely to complain about increased tire wear (possibly due to the high torque of the wheels).

The most problematic part of modern cars has always been multi-** systems – owners complain about them two or more times more than about other components. Most commonly, consumers complain the most about Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice control.

Finally, assisted driving is also becoming more and more annoying for car owners, as they constantly issue hazard warnings. Endless warnings can lead to driver fatigue and stress, which obviously does not improve the level of safety.
