Coal pitch is one of the main products of coal tar deep processing, which is a mixture of a variety of hydrocarbons, black high-viscosity semi-solid or solid at room temperature, and has no fixed melting point. The density is 125-1.35g/cm3。According to its softening point, it can be divided into three types: low-temperature, medium-temperature and high-temperature asphalt.

1. Modified asphalt.
Coal pitch is mainly used for the preparation of impregnating agents and binders. It plays an important role in aggregate applications of ordinary electrodes, aluminium anode pastes and ultra-high power electrodes. Using modified asphalt as a binder raw material, the carbon products produced have the advantages of small resistance, good electrical conductivity, good thermal conductivity, high mechanical strength, high capacitance density, low power consumption, good oxidation resistance and thermal stability of the electrode, no slag dropping, long life, small thermal expansion, etc., and the production process of modified coal asphalt is more mature for oxidation and thermal polymerization.
4. Coal asphalt coating.
It is widely used in the bottom of ships, ballast water tanks, wharf steel piles, mine steel supports, acid tanks, water pipelines and underground pipelines for anti-corrosion of the outer wall of the bottom and topcoat.
5. Coal measure needle coke.
Coal measure needle coke is made of coal asphalt as the main raw material, through three major processes: raw material pretreatment, delayed coking and high-temperature calcination. The high-power and ultra-high-power graphite electrodes made of it have outstanding characteristics such as low resistivity, small coefficient of thermal expansion, strong thermal shock resistance, high mechanical strength and good oxidation resistance. It is mainly used as graphite electrode and lithium-ion anode material.
6. Impregnating agent asphalt.
Impregnated asphalt is used to impregnate carbon products, reduce porosity and increase bulk density, or achieve impermeable asphalt. Through impregnation, the porosity and permeability are reduced, the bulk density is increased, and the physical and chemical properties of the product are improved.
7. Binder asphalt.
Binder asphalt refers to the asphalt that can bind carbon aggregate and powder together and form a plastic paste after kneading. It has an important impact on the quality of the main raw materials in the steelmaking, aluminum electrolysis and refractory industries.
