On February 17, 2024 local time, the Chinese Foreign Minister met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
This is the second meeting between the foreign ministers of China and Ukraine at this year's Munich Security Conference, after meeting at the Munich Security Conference last year since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Please note, however, that Foreign Minister Wang is "meeting by appointment". That is, the meeting invited by the Ukrainian side.
So, what did Foreign Minister Wang say during the meeting?
Analyzing the news released by ***, Foreign Minister Wang elaborated on China's position on the Russia-Ukraine war from two levels.
The first layer is about Sino-Ukrainian relations. Foreign Minister Wang said that China and Ukraine have been strategic cooperative partners for many years, and there is a traditional friendship between the two peoples. No matter how the international situation changes, China hopes that China-Ukraine relations will develop normally and continue to benefit the two peoples. Thank you again for helping the Chinese side evacuate safely in an emergency situation, and the Chinese people will never forget.
The second layer is China's principled position on the Ukraine issue. Foreign Minister Wang stressed that China adheres to the political settlement of hotspot issues, persists in promoting peace talks, does not add fuel to the fire, does not take advantage of the opportunity to reap profits, and does not make the conflict areas or parties to the conflict "lethal". We will continue to play a constructive role in ending the fighting and rebuilding peace as soon as possible. Even if there is only a glimmer of hope for peace, China will not give up its efforts.
These two meanings are basically the same as China's public statements in the two years since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, and there is no new content to express them.
It can be seen that this is just a typical diplomatic stance, diplomatic rhetoric and diplomatic etiquette.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba said that Ukraine is willing to maintain friendly exchanges with China and promote the further development of Ukrainian-Chinese relations. China has an important influence on global affairs, and the Ukrainian side highly appreciates China's position paper on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, hopes that China will continue to play a unique and constructive role in promoting peace, and is willing to strengthen ties with China's special envoy for Eurasian affairs.
It can also be seen from this that the Ukrainian side is just trying to continue to consolidate China's unequivocal support for Russia, and does not provide lethal ** and overt military assistance to Russia.
To be honest, judging from Foreign Minister Wang's stance and performance on the global security situation, as reflected in the dialogue, China is unlikely to be the protagonist in mediating the Russia-Ukraine war, and at most can participate in mediation. As for the effect of mediation, it has already been proven by reality last year: Ukraine will not listen to China, but only to the United States and Great Britain. Russia will not listen to China, but will only make its own decisions in accordance with its own strategic security needs.
However, for the sake of world peace, China must do its best, and for the sake of China's strategic security environment, China must not set itself on fire. Under such a premise, we will take the best possible actions to promote peace talks and promote world peace.
All in all, all of China's diplomatic actions must be subordinated to and serve the overarching goal of achieving cross-strait reunification in the face of world tensions and conflicts.
