People's Daily Online, Beijing, January 10 (Reporter Li Qiaochu) "The difficulties that need to be overcome urgently in electric vehicle fires are mainly manifested in the problems of 'difficult design, difficult verification, difficult supervision, difficult fire protection and difficult investigation'. Recently, Sun Fengchun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at the Beijing Institute of Technology, pointed out at the new energy vehicle fire safety technology exchange meeting and the first batch of evaluation of China's electric vehicle fire safety index that electric vehicles are strong and harmful, which leads to consumer safety concerns and restricts the sustainable and healthy development of the industry.

Wang Kun, vice chairman and secretary general of the China Consumer Goods Quality and Safety Promotion Association, said that with the rapid development of China's new energy vehicle industry, the establishment and improvement of China's electric vehicle fire safety index (C-EVFI) will not only help improve the safety performance of electric vehicles, enhance consumer trust in products, but also help promote the prosperity and development of the electric vehicle market.

Taking the safety of drivers and passengers as the starting point, the China Electric Vehicle Fire Safety Index (C-EVFI) focuses on four aspects: fire safety tips, emergency rescue, fire protection and data linkage of electric vehicles, and evaluates the fire safety protection performance of electric vehicles independently, objectively and impartially through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, and successfully constructs a fire safety test and evaluation system for electric vehicles. Liu Yingjie, general manager of China Merchants Testing Technology Holdings, introduced.

According to the data, from January to November 2023, the production and sales of new energy vehicles will be 842 respectively60,000 and 83040,000 units, up 345% and 367%, with a market share of 308%;Exports of new energy vehicles also showed rapid growth, with 10910,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 835%。

Li Shaohua, deputy secretary-general of the China National Association, proposed that in order to better promote the safe, healthy and sustainable development of the new energy vehicle industry, it is recommended that relevant departments should strengthen cooperation and create a new ecology of the new energy vehicle industryImprove the intrinsic safety of products and strengthen the construction of safety systems for new energy vehicle enterprisesEnsure the safety of the "horizontal" and "vertical" development of the new energy vehicle industry.

It is reported that according to the China Electric Vehicle Fire Safety Index (C-EVFI) management measures, China Merchants Vehicle Research completed the relevant tests and data analysis of the first batch of test models in three months. The selection of the evaluated models and their configurations takes into account different brands and price points, and comprehensively considers factors such as market ownership, annual sales, market attention, fire accident rate, and new technology application.

The first batch of 6 vehicles evaluated in the China Electric Vehicle Fire Safety Index performed well overall, and some functions needed to be improved. Chen Bin of China Merchants Automobile Research New Energy Center suggested that enterprises can improve the vehicle safety prompt function by optimizing the alarm strategy inside and outside the vehicle, or improve the fire protection performance of new energy vehicles by developing new power batteries and improving the intrinsic safety of batteries.
