Agility and Construction".
Since the 85 New Wave of Fine Arts, Chinese figure painting has relieved itself of the burden of grand themes, paid more attention to itself and the people around it, and explored the form of painting and artistic language, showing a diversified state. Therefore, it is not easy to summarize what Chinese character painting is in the past forty years, but it is not anything, and it is probably possible to borrow Wang Meng's definition of Wang Shuo's artistic characteristics - "avoiding the sublime" - which are closely related to the background of the era of the rapid rise of the citizen class under the washing of the market economy.
After the reflection of "scar art" and the ridicule of "contemporary art", without the presupposition of lofty ideals and the perspective of God, the painters' eyes start from themselves, express the trivial and monotonous daily life, and the frank and humorous depictions make people feel intimate, natural and relaxed and lively. This kind of sincerity is the painter's acceptance of self and his concern for the daily life of the public, and it is the ethical basis for the artist's self-appreciation and self-satisfaction of the undesirable life state of relaxation, leisure, fun and playfulness in this era.
The German aesthete Hegel noted that man "has an impulse to realize himself in the external things that are directly presented to him." "The figure paintings of this era, the calm forms and the quiet daily records, constitute the spiritual portrayal of a generation of self-care in a more relaxed atmosphere of the times.

In Front of the Window depicts everyday scenes in the home. Sunlight comes in from the outside, and the characters and objects in the picture seem to be closely connected and independent, and the realistic technique makes people feel very familiar, and the relationship between the characters and the feeling of space make people feel very strange. The little girl sitting on a high stool looks out the window, extending the space of the picture to the outside of the painting. Although there is a passionate yearning in the picture, it is more cold and lonely, and this feeling is real and distant, elusive.

Mao Xuhui is a leading figure in the "New Figuration" group of the "85 New Wave Art Movement" and one of the most representative pioneers in the development of Chinese contemporary art. The 80s is the starting point of Mao Xuhui's artistic career, since graduating from Yunnan Art Institute in 1982, Mao Xuhui has entered a period of rapid growth, early to Cézanne, Van Gogh, Munch as an example, preference for rough and powerful painting, he spent a lot of time in Yunnan Zhongdian, Nujiang, Guishan and other places to sketch and create, after the impressionist painting language to explore the essence of nature and human nature.
In the 90s, the trend of the art circle shifted from the humanistic ideal atmosphere of modernism to the internationalization and marketization trend of postmodernism. In this constant struggle with reality, "scissors" began to become an important image of Mao Xuhui's creation. Different from the simple and straightforward painting style of his early days, the "Scissors" series shows a clear sense of symbolism, and he has exhausted almost every method to deal with this particular theme, with different backgrounds, tones, styles, and techniques to convey different messages. But whether it's a reference to the scissors used by his mother or a scissors painted in honor of his daughter, Mao Xuhui's works always have a deep emotion running through them. This work of "Scissors" in the late 90s depicts an old-fashioned scissors common in Chinese homes in a deep brown-gray tone, although the painter has minimalist most of the details of the object, it can still instantly recall the heavy feel of the old-fashioned scissors, and the clean, clear lines convey a strong visual impact and spiritual weight.

Ji Dachun's paintings use delicate objects and blank backgrounds as iconic symbols, often using small brush tips to delicately rub, rub, dot and dye in millimeters, and sometimes use tea, Chinese medicine, and coffee to splash out color blocks with different colors of the canvas to create a warm and dripping visual effect, which is a rebellion and subversion of traditional oil painting techniques. In this work, Ji Dachun paints a small God of Wealth in the middle of the picture, and through the contrast of sizes, it produces an unexpected sense of humor. The adorable God of Wealth is placed in a large blank canvas, like a prank that subverts the rules of painting.
