After World War II, the international political situation underwent a dramatic transformation. The U.S.-led joint ** team is actively vying for influence in the geopolitics of Northeast Asia. In the process, the Yalta agreement on the Korean Peninsula was not fully respected, leading to an escalation of tensions in the region, which eventually reached the Yalu River.
In order to maintain *** and territorial integrity, the Chinese volunteers decided to intervene in the Korean War. In this battle, where there was a gap in strength and technology, the soldiers of the Volunteer Army confronted the strong enemy with firm determination and heroic fighting spirit. In the list of many heroes, the deeds of Huang Jiguang, Qiu Shaoyun, Yang Gensi and others have become stories that inspire future generations.
Of course, in addition to the well-known heroes, there are many unknown but equally heroic warriors who deserve our memory. For example, Li Daixiang, he was praised as a "young hero" by President Peng.
Li Daixiang, only 17 years old, as a new recruit, when all his comrades-in-arms sacrificed their lives for the country, he still held his ground, alone with the enemy army for more than 5 hours, and finally achieved a shocking result, repelling 150 American troops and returning safely. This magnificent achievement was unbelievable even to him.
Is there any story behind such a legendary record that we don't know yet?
* Technology certainly has their role on the battlefield, but it is often the deeper factors that really determine the outcome of a war. At the critical moment of the confrontation between the two armies, the soldiers' firm faith, will to fight, and determination to fight for justice often become the decisive force.
In the face of the advanced equipment of the US army, the volunteers gained inspiration from the best "On Protracted War", knowing that only by relying on the strength of the people and a strong fighting spirit can they achieve victory on the battlefield. It's not enough to rely on **. It is this kind of spiritual belief that pushes the volunteers to create miracles on the battlefield, even if they are inferior in terms of equipment, they dare to challenge and dare to confront the strong enemy head-on.
On September 29, 1951, with the advent of late autumn, the U.S. Army launched a new offensive against the Volunteer Army. In this battle, the 5th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the 416th Regiment of the 139th Division of the 47th Army of the Volunteer Army, to which Li Daixiang belonged, was ordered to guard Yanxian Mountain, and their goal was to block the 1st Cavalry Division, an elite unit of the American Army.
In the dead of night, the fighters of the 5th Company reached Yanhyeon Mountain. Under the cover of night, despite physical and mental exhaustion, they quickly dug trenches and set up fortifications.
As the sky grew brighter, the U.S. forces began heavy artillery bombardment, the aim of which was to quickly capture this strategic location. In order to quickly break through this critical area, the US military deployed two battalions of troops to attack a defensive point of our army consisting of only one platoon.
After successfully blocking three consecutive attacks by the US army, squad leader Wu Lianyi decided to send Li Daixiang to the platoon commander's command post to update battlefield information and request reinforcements and ammunition.
The 60-meter distance that Li Daixiang had to walk was an unobstructed dangerous area, with no trench connection in the middle and no bunkers. Once bombarded by the U.S. military, the chances of survival are extremely small. But this is a task that must be done. So, Li Daixiang decisively rushed out of the trench and ran with all his might.
As he ran, the sound of enemy gunfire was close to his ears, but he did not flinch, but only moved forward. When he was about to reach the command post, he suddenly fell to the ground. The platoon commander immediately stepped forward and nervously examined his injuries. Although his uniform was torn, miraculously, he was not injured in a single body. The platoon commander was relieved, and then listened to Li Dai's report on the fighting situation in relation to the class.
Li Daixiang's bravery and decisiveness soon won the platoon commander's high recognition. Soon after, he was selected for the company commander's task force, a team of 13 soldiers tasked with entering the positions of the 5th company and 1st platoon to rescue the trapped fighters.
In that land surrounded by enemy troops, only 5 of our soldiers remained to resist vigorously. The difficulty of this rescue mission lies in the fact that a team of only 13 people has to carry out such a high-risk mission behind enemy lines, which is almost a life-and-death adventure.
The wise choice is to avoid head-on confrontation. So, they decided to act at night, and in order to avoid friendship, a white towel was tied to the arm of each commando as a sign.
In the dead of night, Li Daixiang and his comrades quietly walked to the mountainside, and suddenly, a beam of flashlight hit them. The enemy began to converse in their language, and Lee Dai-sang was at the forefront, unable to understand what the other was saying.
Just as Lee Dai-sang was about to tell his teammates to stay alert and avoid enemy light, it was obvious that the enemy spotted them, followed by a dense burst of gunfire and grenades. Li Daixiang was stunned by the shock wave of ** without warning. When he regained consciousness, there was already fierce hand-to-hand combat around him. In the heat of battle, he turned his head and saw an enemy approaching him, and he quickly grabbed a grenade and instinctively threw it at the enemy. When he entered the trenches of the 1st platoon, the remains of his comrades were everywhere.
Li Daixiang kept searching in the trenches until he found the seriously injured squad leader Wu Lianyi at one end of the trench. Wu Lianyi was so thirsty that he could only pant for breath, and when he saw Li Daixiang, he only said the words "I want to drink water". This means that he has lost too much blood and is dying.
Li Daixiang hurriedly picked him up, carefully descended the mountain from the quiet flank, and returned to the command post of the 5th Company to seek help. After arriving at the command post, the company commander informed him that the 1st platoon of 5 fighters managed to break through, but unfortunately, 10 of the 13 task forces in this operation were killed.
The fierce battle at Yanxian Mountain lasted for three days and four nights. Incredibly, during those five hours, Li Daixiang held an important position alone.
He later recalled this period of time and couldn't help but burst into tears, he said: "Seeing my comrades-in-arms fall one by one, the despair and reluctance at that moment are something I will never forget in my life." ”
At that time, he only had the determination to avenge his comrades-in-arms in his heart, and he did not consider his life and death at all. During that time, 16 enemy tanks and more than 100 artillery pieces on the ground continued to bombard his positions, turning the entire area into a hell. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., his companions died one by one, and he, as the sole survivor, stuck to that hot land.
On the harsh battlefield, Li Daixiang's body burned not only anger, but also a deep nostalgia and unyielding oath for the sacrifice of his comrades. The battle oath of the 5th Company became the support for his persistence: "For the happiness of the motherland and the Korean people, for the sake of this blood-stained land, and for the sake of avenging the sacrificed soldiers, we will not hesitate to sacrifice our own lives and resolutely fight the enemy to the end." It was this unwavering determination that enabled Li Daixiang to successfully kill 150 enemy soldiers with his superb tactics and ingenious tactics.
Inside the trenches, there are ** that he can use. When a firearm is damaged or runs out of bullets, he takes a spare from his fallen comrades next to him. Li Daixiang may not be clear about the specific number and ** of the enemy, but he gave full play to his sensitive intuition on the battlefield and used the existing environment to skillfully attack the enemy. He moved flexibly in the barrage, using the helmets of his comrades as bait, and then using the limited grenades and firepower in his hands to accurately strike the enemy.
After three days and four nights of bloody fighting, only 18 of the 180 brave soldiers of the 5th Company survived. But they did not back down, and managed to withstand a whopping 29 enemy attacks. And Li Daixiang, with his bravery and wisdom, single-handedly held his position and successfully annihilated 150 enemies, and was awarded a first-class merit medal.
Li Daixiang's heroic deeds are recorded in detail on his meritorious service certificate: During the three days and four nights of the bloody battle on Yanxian Mountain, Li Daixiang participated in the assault team to rescue a platoon of comrades-in-arms to break through the siege and rescue the seriously wounded Wu Lianyi from the enemy group. In the battle on October 8, he forgot his life, was brave and tenacious, and was wounded and could not get out of the line of fire, and the lone army held the front position of the second platoon for more than 5 hours, annihilating more than 150 enemies.
This heroic deed has attracted the attention of Mr. Peng. When meeting Li Daixiang, Mr. Peng looked at his meritorious service certificate affectionately and said with emotion: "You are only 17 years old, and you can be said to be an out-and-out young hero." ”
After the war, Li Daixiang was promoted continuously, and successively held many important positions, from squad leader to cadet, to instructor, assistant, all the way to squadron leader, captain, section chief, and finally was appointed deputy division assistant and was awarded the rank of colonel.
