The start of school is imminent, when most of the students are still "rushing to work" for the winter vacation homework, some students in Zhenhai Middle School are using the winter vacation time to do experiments, apply for national patents, understand the integration process of production, education and research, and improve their "winter vacation homework" in scientific research institutes and high-tech enterprises.

On February 19th, Zhenhai Middle School Tuition Qi Rong, Lu Kexin, Yang Jirui and other "new scientific and technological seedlings" came to Ningbo Yibo Optoelectronics Technology from the Ningbo Institute of Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Yibo is the only company in the world that has mastered the crystal material growth technology of both LYSO and BGO, the core detection technology of PET CT.

During this trip, the students made a special trip to learn about the core materials and related technologies of medical image detectors developed by the company, including transparent ceramic crystals for PET-CT detectors, PMN-PT crystals for next-generation ultrasound images, zinc-cadmium tellurium (CZT) crystals for next-generation CT detectors, and oxide crystals and devices for ultrafast lasers. These crystals and devices, which are exported to developed countries such as Europe and the United States, have greatly opened the horizons of "new scientific and technological seedlings".

What will ordinary ceramic fragments become after high-tech processing? In the recommended book "Robinson Crusoe", there is such a scene: Robinson made a bowl blank out of clay on a desert island, and when he used a homemade stove to sinter it into a clay bowl, he said to himself, "If you burn it at this time, you can't burn it anymore, and if you burn it again, it will turn into glass."

This sentence has aroused great interest among the "new seedlings of science and technology": after high-temperature sintering, does the gray-faced clay really become glass, or is it another transparent substance?

In the summer of last year, the students began to implement the project of "Rebirth from the Fire - Transparent Treatment and Utilization of Daily Ceramics to Special Ceramics", and made a batch of special transparent ceramic sheets doped with different types of rare earth ions during the winter vacation, and the experiment lasted nearly 8 months.

In order to test the use of transparent ceramic sheets, they brought samples to this high-tech company, and received careful guidance from Dr. Zhang Furu, the company's core technical personnel and CTO returnee.

Qiu Yibo and Chen Feiyang from Zhenhai Middle School are also very busy. The rural roads in central Zhejiang are basically in the mountainous areas, and every time the team members visit their grandmother's house, they often feel the safety hazards of traveling at night, especially the waterfront, cliff, high slope and downhill road sections, there are no lighting facilities, and they are more dangerous.

The two "new science and technology seedlings" learned that about 750,000 villages in China are currently unable to provide normal road lighting conditions.

After nearly half a year of research, the project team preliminarily designed a road energy storage self-luminous warning product, which can not only provide help for drivers and passers-by, but also has the characteristics of low cost, environmental protection and durability, the product applied for a national patent for "a road warning pile" in February this year, and has been accepted by the State Intellectual Property Office.

Experimental equipment. Gong Yi, Shi Tingyuan, Yang Yuhao and other "new scientific and technological seedlings" project teams from Zhenhai Middle School entered the Municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences to improve the experiments that had started in the summer. The students designed and optimized the juice processing technology, and provided technical support for the creation of refreshing, delicious and nutritious NFC high-antioxidant activity round leaf grape juice products by optimizing primary processing, dilution, ultra-high pressure sterilization, etc.

It is understood that the "Science and Technology New Seedlings" projects in these three towns have won the first prize in the 2023 Ningbo Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition, and have been recommended to participate in the 38th Zhejiang Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition.
