The exhibition focuses on the ancient and modern inheritance of calligraphy creation

Because of its unique shape, rich content, elegance and exquisiteness, handscrolls have been favored by literati throughout the ages, and are an important carrier of the inheritance of Chinese civilization. The 3rd National Exhibition of Handscroll Calligraphy Works, sponsored by the Chinese Calligraphers Association, was recently launched in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, focusing on the creative transformation of excellent traditional Chinese culture.

(Photo courtesy of China Calligraphy Association) The 194 works in the exhibition observe the natural writing state of traditional literati calligraphy, and focus on text conception, emotional expression, artistic expression, etc., comprehensively showing the personality exploration of contemporary calligraphers by integrating traditional aesthetics and characteristics of the times into their creation.

This exhibition also has a special "Chapter" of the sages and masters, which displays 8 handscrolls of the sages and masters. It displays ancient handscroll masterpieces and modern handscroll calligraphy across time and space, presenting the inheritance of calligraphy through the dialogue between ancient and modern.

Pan Shanzhu, vice chairman of the Chinese Calligraphy Association, said that this year's handscroll exhibition is committed to exploring the academic value of handscroll calligraphy in the context of contemporary art, showing the Chinese style, national spirit and style of the times, and reflecting the majority of calligraphers in the new era to consciously strengthen their perception of the classics, thinking about the times, and inheriting their creations.
