Good vs. Mediocre: Reflections on Professional Attitudes.
What is good and what is mediocre? While there is no exact definition, there are universally accepted standards. Good employees just need to know what they want to achieve and be able to figure out how to achieve it. The better the person, the better at completing the task in the absence of conditions; And mediocre people often pick and choose the conditions for doing things. There is only one step between excellence and mediocrity, and that step is professionalism. Professionalism refers to a person's behavior that conforms to what others expect of him or her in his or her role. Superiors should lead the team to complete tasks, care for subordinates and help them grow, and at the same time achieve personal goals; Employees should complete the tasks assigned by their superiors with high quality, positively influence others, and provide assistance to other colleagues; The teacher should answer the students' questions and make the students more and more clear. But how do you do it professionally? How do you measure professionalism? This article will introduce the three dimensions of the first evaluation criteria, the purpose of which is to guide the direction for those who aspire to excellence, enhance confidence for those who are excellent, and achieve more excellence:
The first dimension: norms.
Norms include processes, procedures, systems and standards, etc., and there are three realms of compulsion, recognition and consciousness to follow the norms.
People who are forced to follow the norms generally go to work with all their might; People who agree with compliance with norms are active workers, and they believe that compliance with rules is an essential quality in the organization; People who consciously abide by the norms are those who work with affection, and they have regarded the work norms as their own work habits.
Let's take an example of an attendance system. Some people won't be late because they're afraid of being fined, and that's what they are forced to comply; And some people will not be late because they think that everyone in the organization should follow the rules to create a good organizational image, which is to agree to comply; And some people don't be late because they have developed good work habits, and they focus on how to finish the work gracefully, which is conscious compliance.
To implement the norms, we need to be conscious; Teams and employees who are not left behind are prerequisites for consciously following the norms and understanding them accurately, especially in relation to workflows. Consciously implementing the norms also needs to be implemented in daily work in order to form habits.
The second dimension: responsibility.
Responsibility refers to not shirking responsibility when encountering problems, having the courage to take responsibility and actively looking for solutions to problems. There are three levels of responsibility, taking action, countermeasures and achieving good results.
Let's say you hear the news that one of your company's key customers is negotiating a business with a competitor. You report the news to the company's leadership, and then actively negotiate with the customer to try to keep the customer with the company, but in the end you do. From a responsibility perspective, you took responsibility and took action, but the reason why you didn't achieve good results may be because you didn't take into account the deeper root of the problem, or because you didn't effectively prevent it from happening. Therefore, the highest level of responsibility is to work on the problem and try to solve it in order to avoid the recurrence of the problem.
Being a responsible person takes time and patience, and it requires constant learning and exploration in order to improve one's reflexes and problem-solving skills. In addition to fully understanding the root cause of the problem, you also need to be more flexible to develop your strengths, think from multiple perspectives, control and solve the problem of missing work anytime, anywhere, not only to improve your communication skills and performance ability, but also to expand the space for career development.
The third dimension: cooperation.
Cooperation refers to cooperating with colleagues and helping each other to better complete work tasks. Cooperation, like the implementation of norms and accountability, requires one's own expertise and a broad perspective.
In terms of cooperation, there are three different realms: doing one's job well, providing active help, understanding colleagues, and taking the initiative to support.
The so-called doing one's own job well refers to achieving the best possible effect within the scope of one's own responsibilities, so as to provide strong support for the team; Secondly, we should take the initiative to work together and assist them in completing the task as much as possible, which can not only promote the completion of the task, but also increase our own value; Finally, the highest level of cooperation is to know your colleagues and offer support, in which case you can easily develop a relationship of mutual trust, maximize your abilities, and further improve your professional development.
In short, in terms of cooperation, we should all understand that it is important to be a great person, but to achieve efficient production and high performance, we also need more communication and collaboration to achieve results.
In short, the only way to do this is to further integrate the concepts of accountability, accountability and cooperation and implement them into the work of all employees. Only in this way can a good professional stand out and succeed. In fact, people are not born excellent, becoming excellent people is only a gradual maturity process, only when we always adhere to the basic principles of professionalism, standardization, responsibility and cooperation, can we become excellent talents.
Life is so short, we don't have time to be ordinary. If we want to be an excellent person, we must pay attention to normative practices and be conscious; In terms of responsibility, do a good job; When it comes to collaboration, it's important to understand the interdependencies of team members. Only when we continue to implement the spirit of professionalism, standardization, responsibility and cooperation can we go further on the career path.
