According to Thailand**, the victim was Ms. Mei (pseudonym), a 29-year-old Chinese tourist who had recently arrived in Thailand with her 19-year-old brother and parents and stayed in a hotel opposite the Pattaya Floating Market. On the day of the incident on February 18, the siblings had an argument with their parents, so they did not travel with their parents.
At around 5 p.m. that day, the sister and brother were not far from the scene of the crime and were about to take a ride to the Pattaya scenic spot, when two Thai men on motorcycles offered to let them hitchhike, so the two of them each got into the back seat of the motorcycle. However, upon reaching the vicinity of the scene of the incident, the two motorcycles suddenly dispersed, and the motorcycle carrying the victim woman suddenly turned to the nearby woods.
Subsequently, the motorcyclist tried to assault the woman, but was unsuccessful. So the motorcyclist poured gasoline on the surrounding plants and set them on fire. In order to survive, the woman managed to burn the rope that bound her wrist with fire and tried to contact her brother for help while calling the police.
It is reported that the suspect is a 41-year-old Thai man named thip, who has participated in many robberies, and his usual modus operandi is to follow the victim on a motorcycle and rob the victim of necklaces, bags and other valuables.
