On January 1 this year, the "E-Commerce Law of the People's Republic of China" was implemented just five years ago. At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Commerce held today (11th), the spokesperson introduced that since the implementation of the e-commerce law in 2019, China's e-commerce business environment has been continuously optimized, and e-commerce has become an important part of the digital economy with the largest scale, the widest coverage, and the most active entrepreneurship and innovation, and has played an active role in the construction of a new development pattern of services.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, in the past five years, the scale efficiency of e-commerce has been significantly improved. The total volume of e-commerce transactions increased from 31 63 trillion yuan in 2018 to 43 83 trillion yuan in 2022, and the online retail sales of physical goods accounted for more than a quarter of the total retail sales of social goods, making China the world's largest online retail market for 11 consecutive years. In five years, the number of e-commerce employees has increased from 47 million to more than 70 million. E-commerce has become a new engine for digital transformation, with a number of B2B platforms with a transaction volume of more than 100 billion yuan such as chemicals and building materials emerging, and the national e-commerce demonstration base has led to the formation of more than 30 characteristic digital industrial belts such as clothing and furniture.
International cooperation in e-commerce has gradually deepened. The number of "Silk Road E-commerce" partner countries has been expanded to 30, and the cloud lecture hall has benefited more than 80 countries.
Shu Jueting, spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce: We will create a "Silk Road E-commerce" cooperation pilot zone in Shanghai, expand the opening up of the e-commerce field, and create a new highland for international cooperation in the digital economy. Of the 22 free trade agreements that China has signed, 13 contain e-commerce content. The inclusion of e-commerce law and Internet justice in the APEC public policy case database in China's practice has contributed China's wisdom to global digital governance.
