In recent years, the Yueyang Dongting Water Environment Research Institute of Nanhu New Area has closely focused on the construction of national ecological civilization, kept in mind the great trust of "guarding a river and clear water", always cared about the water of Nanhu Lake, and actively carried out talent training, water research and water control, scientific research and social services, and achieved remarkable results.
Carefully cultivated, forging the "main force" of water controlFounded in 2008, Yueyang Dongting Water Environment Research Institute was formerly known as the Expert Group of Yueyang Nanhu Water Environment Governance Headquarters Office, which was mainly engaged in water resources and water environment situation analysis at the beginning of its establishment. The institute has grown from 3 people to 24 people at present, and has become a new R&D institution in Hunan Province, and its research scope has expanded from the situation of water resources and water environment to the sustainable development and utilization of water resources and the protection and restoration of water ecosystems. Up to now, the institute has successively cultivated and introduced a group of high-quality talents with professional ability, including 4 doctors of technical consultants, 2 professors of the city's first-class science and technology commissioner, 2 high-level talents of class E in Yueyang City, 1 young and middle-aged academic leader in Yueyang City, 5 associate high-tech professional and technical talents, 4 masters, 2 high-level talents for flexible talent introduction, and 4 assistant experimenters, forming a talent team with excellent academic structure, strong professional ability and wide research direction. 
Meticulous research to create a "new model" of water controlIn order to protect the clear water of Nanhu Lake, since 2008, the institute has creatively put forward the cross policy of "intercepting pollution, prohibiting breeding, dredging, living water, and strict management" through a large number of field visits, sampling and testing, and data analysis. Formulate the "Nanhu Ecological Governance Work Plan", through the planting of aquatic plants, the release of aquatic animals, the maximum transfer of nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients, improve the ecological environment of the Nanhu Lake, and achieve the goal of the surface water quality compliance rate of more than 90% in the main lake of the South Lake, Maizigang, and the upstream of the Nanhu water system, and there has been no large-scale cyanobacteria outbreak in the Nanhu Basin for 4 consecutive years. Through real-time monitoring and accuracy analysis of the water quality of Nanhu Lake, a complete set of water quality monitoring and analysis and resource reuse methods have been established, creating a precedent for water treatment and water restoration mode in Yueyang City, and the "Nanhu Model" of water environment governance has been widely adopted and used by the province and city, and in 2022, Nanhu Lake was awarded the title of "Excellent Case of Beautiful River and Lake Construction in Hunan Province" by the Hunan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment. 
Precise promotion, casting a "golden business card" for water controlYueyang Dongting Water Environment Research Institute has made a number of achievements in the fields of theoretical breakthroughs, technological innovation and engineering practice, focusing on the main research directions of urban water ecological security, urban water quality assurance, and urban water health cycle. It has always been at the forefront of the industry in the research of practical technologies such as chlorophyll satellite spectroscopy and cyanobacterial outbreak early warning mechanism, and now has 2 national invention patents and 9 new utility patents. Among them, the technology of "building a multi-dimensional water ecological monitoring system in South Lake based on remote sensing image inversion and early warning of cyanobacterial bloom" has filled the gap in China. It has successively won more than 30 honorary titles such as provincial and municipal new research institutions, provincial popular science education base cultivation units, Yueyang popular science education bases, youth popular science education centers, and joint laboratories for comprehensive treatment of lake water bodies. In 2022, Yueyang Dongting Water Environment Research Institute was specially invited by the Hunan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment to formulate the "Special Emergency Plan for Cyanobacterial Bloom Incidents in Key Rivers and Lakes in Hunan Province", and was hired to become the technical support unit for the prevention and control of cyanobacteria blooms in key rivers and lakes in the province, and in 2023, it was recommended by the Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment as a typical demonstration unit for the prevention and control of cyanobacteria in large lakes of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
