Recently, the 30th batch of Chinese medical teams in Guinea successfully completed the first coronary angiography operation after the establishment of the Imaging Center of China-Guinea Friendship Hospital, which marks the successful start of routine cardiac interventional diagnosis and treatment in the hospital.
In September 2023, the 30th batch of medical teams composed of 24 team members went to Conakry, the capital of Guinea, to carry out an 18-month medical mission. Among them, 22 team members are from 16 clinical departments such as cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, traditional Chinese medicine, and general surgery of Beijing Anzhen Hospital, as well as functional departments such as finance, general affairs, and international cooperation, and the other 2 team members are from the Municipal Health Commission and the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention. In the same month, the Imaging Center of the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital was established, which includes multi-detector CT, magnetic resonance imaging and a catheterization laboratory. In the trial operation stage, the imaging center realized the imaging technology examination, and actively created conditions to carry out large-scale interventional surgery.
After the medical team was stationed, under the leadership of team leader Song Xiantao, the team members went deep into the catheterization laboratory to conduct detailed research, found and solved a series of technical and operational problems, including the use and maintenance of equipment, the optimization of surgical procedures, and the training and improvement of operational skills and theoretical knowledge for local medical staff. Song Xiantao said: "When the medical team arrived at the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital, although the cath lab had been built, many key links had not yet been put in place. Our goal is not only to complete the first operation, but more importantly, through our efforts, to standardize and normalize the interventional surgery here. ”
However, the first problem faced by the medical team was the shortage of consumables. To this end, Dr. Li Wenzheng took the initiative to contact domestic interventional medical equipment manufacturers and solved the problem of surgical consumables in a timely manner.
In addition, the cath lab lacks the necessary rules and procedures, such as signature sheets and catheter handover sheets. In order to solve this problem, Sheng Jin, the chief physician of the medical team, and Lu Zhizhi, the deputy chief nurse, jointly established relevant French rules and regulations and other documents for the local hospital to ensure the standardization and safety of the surgical process.
Catheterization laboratory oxygen production equipment is an indispensable and important equipment during surgery. After multi-party coordination, the medical team won a new oxygen concentrator for the hospital, and completed the installation and commissioning under the guidance of Deputy Chief Physician Zhang Jianpeng. The device greatly improves the safety and success rate of the operation.
Considering that there was no air-conditioning in the catheterization room, the medical team worked together with the local hospital to install an air-conditioning system, which not only ensured the safe operation of the catheterization machine, but also provided better operating conditions for both doctors and patients.
At the same time, Li Wenzheng also made an arterial puncture and coronary angiography simulator, and with the help of Li Siqi, the interpreter of the medical team, he and Dr. Sheng Jin led local doctors to successfully complete the arterial puncture and coronary angiography on the simulator. These effective measures have laid a solid foundation for the normal and stable operation of the catheterization laboratory in the future.

After 5 months of careful preparation by the medical team leader, the catheterization laboratory has finally come to use recently. A few days ago, a 38-year-old male patient with hypertension and diabetes mellitus was admitted to the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital, BMI281, and the electrocardiogram shows T wave inversion in the inferior lead. After discussion, it was unanimously decided to perform coronary angiography for him.
The first coronary angiography surgery was performed after the establishment of the imaging center of the local hospital.
Therefore, under the command of Song Xiantao, two doctors, Li Wenzheng and Sheng Jin, jointly performed coronary angiography surgery for him, which was also the first coronary angiography surgery carried out after the establishment of the imaging center of the hospital, marking the official opening of routine cardiac interventional diagnosis and treatment. With the further development of interventional surgery, the medical team will make a greater contribution to the health and well-being of the Guinean people.
