Microsoft laid off 1,900 people and Activision shut down its 35 year old game studio, Toys for Bob

IT Home reported on February 9 that Windows Central, a foreign technology company, dug deep into the report and shared the follow-up of the layoff of 1,900 people in Microsoft's game department, saying that Activision's Toys for Bob game studio could not escape the fate of closure.

According to the report, in this layoff adjustment, Toys for Bob Game Studio has86 employees were affected, and the remaining employees are working remotely.

IT House Note: Founded in 1989 by Paul Reiche III, Fred Ford and Terry Falls, Toys for Bob Game Studios was acquired by Passive Vision in 2005 and is best known for developing Star Control and is headquartered in Novato, California.

In 2018, Toys for Bob assisted in the development of the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy and Spyro the Dragon: Reignited Trilogy. In this layoff, Microsoft will completely shut down the physical studio.

Game Developer also reported that Activision's Sledgehammer Studios, the main team working on the latest Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare III, laid off 76 people, according to a Warn notice from the California Department of Employment Development.

Infinity Ward, the original developer of Call of Duty, was laid off 49 people, and 79 employees at Activision's corporate headquarters were also unemployed. Blizzard was hit the hardest, cutting 479 jobs at its headquarters in Irvine, California, and 130 at its Santa Monica office.
