CSrankings is a metric-based ranking of the world's top computer science institutions. Recently, CSrankings released the latest global rankings of universities for computer science. The United States and China both performed well in the rankings, but Australia also achieved good results. What about the rankings? Let's take a look!
The U.S. occupies 58 of the world's top 100 institutions, of which 28 are in the top 50. Carnegie Mellon University has been ranked first for 12 consecutive years. There are 19 universities in Chinese mainland in the top 100, and many schools in the top 10!
A total of three Australian universities in computer science are ranked among the top 100 in the world. Here is a ranking of the three universities:
Monash University: 54th in the world.
University of Sydney: 54th in the world.
University of Melbourne: 83rd in the world.
In Australia, universities are ranked as follows:
Monash University and the University of Sydney tied for the top spot.
The University of Melbourne came in second. The Australian National University (ANU), the University of New South Wales (UNSW), the University of Adelaide and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) are tied for fourth.
Macquarie University, Queensland University of Technology (QUT), RMIT University, University of Queensland (UQ), University of Western Australia (UWA) and University of Wollongong (UOW) are tied for fifth.
No UK universities are in the top 50, with a total of five UK universities in the top 100. A total of 3 Canadian universities are in the world's top 100.
Overall, Australia's CS majors are still okay in the global rankings, although not as good as their US and Chinese counterparts. Students who want to apply for computer science majors in Australia can focus on these universities!
