A single brother who now lives in Shanghai, in order to create a bright and comfortable nest to live alone, decided to make a drastic transformation of his small apartment. His residence was originally a long, narrow "one-line" old house, with no living room and dining room, only two bedrooms, and the ventilation and lighting were very unsatisfactory.
Considering that his parents rarely come and don't have to keep two bedrooms, he wanted to transform the house into a bright, comfortable space for living alone.
The original house type is two bedrooms, zero living room, one kitchen and one bathroom, with a total area of 54, and the actual usable area is only 45, and most of the space is occupied by the aisle, resulting in a very low utilization rate.
In addition, there is no entrance to the house, and there is no storage space at the entrance; The kitchen and bathroom are very small and inconvenient to use; The lack of living room and dining room is not in line with the habits of young people, and the two bedrooms occupy the best lighting in the whole house.
The key points of the transformation are as follows
1. Add a hallway storage cabinet on the left side of the door.
2. Use the original aisle to create an open kitchen, and place refrigerators, washing machines and other equipment.
3. Merge the original kitchen and dining room into one space.
4. The original north-facing bedroom was converted into a living room.
5. Change the layout of the bathroom from vertical to horizontal, leave enough space for the kitchen to operate, and increase the width appropriately to accommodate separate bathtubs, showers, wash basins and toilets.
6. Connect the south balcony with the bedroom, adjust the wardrobe to the opposite side of the bed and side by side with the kitchen, and reduce the occupation of storage space in the space.
Entrance hall
After entering the door, a storage cabinet is installed on the left side to make up for the original lack of storage space, and by adjusting the shape of the bathroom, the aisle is widened, and the entryway, kitchen and bedroom wardrobe are integrated together, making the aisle with low utilization rate a powerful storage system.
After changing the originally north-facing bedroom into a living room, the first thing you can see when you enter the door is four windows, and the sun is shining and the breeze is blowing, and the original dim and cramped feeling is swept away.
The rooms are not overly decorated, and the carefully selected high-value finished furniture adds to the sense of openness of the space, and the airy abode makes people feel happier than any decoration.
Living room
To the right of the entrance is the renovated living room, which is connected to the dining room by a partially opened partition wall, but separate.
The layout of the living room is completely designed according to the living habits of the owner, breaking the traditional "sofa to TV" layout. The 2100cm long chest of drawers is customized, with solid wood edged windows, so that the scenery outside the window is like a large decorative painting, and you can intuitively feel the beauty of the four seasons when lying on the sofa.
On the opposite side is a custom-made sofa the same width as the chest of drawers, in an off-white system, clean and simple, which complements the overall style. In terms of lighting, the design of no main lamp is adopted, which does not occupy the height of the floor, and creates a richer atmosphere through the light strip in the ceiling and the floor lamp next to the sofa.
Restaurant
Part of the original structure between the dining room and the living room has been retained, adding a sense of space through the gap of the T-shaped structure, while making the overall structure more layered. An 80cm*1600cm long table provides a spacious space, which is not only suitable for daily office, but also can accommodate 6 people for dinner at the same time.
The restaurant is illuminated by spherical paper lamps, which emit a soft light of warm white and has a warm and elegant atmosphere unique to Japan. With simple and elegant landscape paintings, the walls are also made into a decoration.
Warm white doors have been chosen for the entrances, cabinets and sideboards, which increase the reflection of light and make it visually more spacious and bright.
To meet the needs of homeowners, there is space in the middle of the sideboard as a coffee nook, which can also be easily used with small appliances for breakfast preparation. The rest of the cabinet is designed with different storage functions and conceals underfloor heating appliances. The top of the restaurant has been treated with a suspended ceiling to increase the layering of the space.
Kitchen
Considering that the owner usually does not cook much, the location of the kitchen was moved to the aisle and changed to an open design to make the overall space brighter.
The kitchen as a whole adopts warm white cabinets, with ultra-white quartz countertops, and the kitchen appliances are also white as much as possible, making the overall space more refreshing and concise.
Compared to the ceiling light, which is prone to shadows, the light strip installed in the top cabinet is more practical. The slotted layout with sequential washing, cutting and cooking areas is in line with kitchen work habits and makes it easier to move around.
A tall cabinet is installed at the entrance of the bathroom, and the washing machine and dryer are stacked on top of each other to make the most of the space.
Bedrooms
The bedroom is located at the end of the hallway and has sliding doors to maximize daylight. The door body is customized with lacquer and solid wood lines, adding a simple texture to the space.
The head of the bed and the door are integrated and customized, and the head of the bed is made of soft packaging and solid wood lines, which is unified in style and makes the space more concise. Instead of a traditional ceiling light installed on the top, a light strip and downlight are set up at the head of the bed and on the balcony, and the lighting effect is completely sufficient.
The balcony is designed with a full-length mirror cabinet door, which uses mirror reflection to increase the layering of the space, and at the same time meets the needs of the owner to take care of the appearance. The solid wood bedside table is custom-made and integrated with the bedside to make the space even more classy.
Bathroom
By borrowing part of the restaurant area, the toilet was enlarged and a separate shower area and bathtub area were installed, and the dry and wet areas were separated by transparent glass partitions.
The use of small handmade bricks of cream adds texture, and the floating basin with built-in faucets maintains the overall simplicity. Separate shower and toilet areas are also easier to clean.
By adjusting the layout of the space, you can take a bath even in a small apartment, which is the perfect end to the busy life of every day.
Today, the renovation of this small one-bedroom space has been completed. What was once a cramped and dim "little dark room" has now become a warm and bright home, do you also envy it?
