The CMDC4 project is funded by the UK Department for Transport (DFT) and Innovate UK, and the CMDC4 is part of the UK Transport Department's UK Shipping Emissions Reduction Office (UK Shore) programme, which costs $2£0.6 billion, with a focus on developing the technologies needed to decarbonise the UK's domestic maritime sector.

Marine high-speed charging network provideraqua superpowerChief Executive Officeralex bamberg"Building on the success of 2023, Aqua Superpower is pleased to have received funding for two more projects at CMDC 4," said. ”

Last year, Aqua Superpower secured a grant of just under £7 million through Innovate UK and the Department for Transport for eight maritime electrisation projects.

bamberg"The support of this new funding allows us to further accelerate the decarbonisation of the maritime sector and develop our innovative critical marine fast-charging infrastructure," he said. ”

Cowes Harbour Board and Aqua Superpower have launched three new marine fast chargers for electric boats in Cowes, Isle of Wight, in 2023. Chief Executive Officer of British MarineLeslie Robinson"We are incredibly proud of our members who are leading the way in the development of electric charging technology and electric boats, and congratulate them on being one of the beneficiaries of the latest CMDC investment in green maritime technology," added.

This additional £33 million will help accelerate the industry's journey to net zero and support business growth, creating new and exciting jobs for the local community. ”

The new Minister for Maritime at the UK Department for TransportByron DavisOn Thursday (25 January 2024), he visited British Marine's headquarters and met with a number of business representatives from the yachting industry to hear about the progress the industry has made in reducing carbon emissions and some of the challenges it faces.

During the event, Head of Decarbonisation Strategy at British Marineross wombwell"Our focus is on helping build the critical foundation that the sector needs to make an efficient and successful transition to net zero," explains. "We support the standardisation of new technologies and to accelerate the adoption and roll-out of ISO standards, we will continue to work with ** to advocate for evidence-based solutions and, on behalf of our members, seek a just transition for the UK maritime industry, with the help of supportive fiscal and regulatory frameworks. ”

Members also took the opportunity to present ideas on the types of interventions that will help accelerate progress towards decarbonisation of the sector in the short to medium term, such as fiscal adjustments to make it easier for ships to switch to cleaner "low-emission fuels".

According toICOMAIA (International Yacht Federation).Data from the recent landmark decarbonization study report, members highlighted the need to improve the availability and affordability of alternative sustainable fuels, such as second-generation HVO fuels. Other issues raised included the need to reform existing regulations to encourage more terminals to install electric boat charging infrastructure, and the need to further increase R&D funding to scale up and ramp up production of sustainable technologies.

Lord Davis, Minister of Maritime Affairs of the United Kingdom.

Member of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom is Minister of Maritime AffairsDavis"Unlocking a sustainable maritime sector and the economic growth it provides relies on cutting-edge technology to take it to the next level," he said after the visit. "The sustainability journey requires bold investment, not only to deliver greener shipping across the UK, but also to provide highly skilled jobs.

Today, we're witnessing transformative solutions that help shape the future of shipping and support jobs in coastal communities. ”

After the meeting, the owner of Robert Pierrobert parton"This provides a valuable opportunity for Robert Dock to be the representative of inland waterways on this critical issue," he added. Director of Westford Services** and Micfil's UK distributorcharles hansard"I am very grateful for the opportunity to speak with the Minister and underline the importance of discovering and deploying solutions in our transition to zero carbon that will protect the ultimate recreational yacht users from high costs that would otherwise not be able to make clean and green choices and continue their boating activities," added. ”

Archipelago Yachts, in partnership with Chartwell Marine, Boat Electrics and Electronics (BEE) and Engineered Marine Systems (EMS), has secured funding that will drive the development of methanol-powered, low-carbon leisure yachts.

Archipelago Yachts is developing a methanol-powered aluminium expedition catamaran.

archipelagoDr. Stephen Weatherley, Yachts Founder added: "We are delighted to have secured this funding, which will have a huge impact on the future sustainability of the Maritime Ocean.
