United Nations, 5 Feb (ZXS) -- The United Nations Security Council held an emergency public meeting on 5 February on US air strikes in Syria and Iraq. Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, said in his speech at the meeting that China is gravely concerned about the relevant US military action.

Zhang Jun said that a few days ago, the United States carried out air strikes in many places in Syria and Iraq, resulting in a large number of people. The actions constitute a grave violation of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria and Iraq. The United States claims that the military action will continue. China expresses grave concern over this and opposes acts that violate the UN Charter and encroach on the territorial sovereignty and security of other countries.

Zhang Jun said: At present, the situation in the Middle East is on the verge of extreme danger. It is an urgent task for the international community to de-escalate the situation and prevent the escalation of conflicts. In the face of complexity, we must figure out who is creating the threat, whether in the Middle East or elsewhere. Who is abusing force? Who the hell is misleading**? On these issues, we must respect facts, uphold justice, and uphold principles, and we cannot let whoever has a loud voice set the tone, nor can anyone with a hard fist have the final say. In fact, everything that has happened recently has already given the truth answer.

Zhang Jun said: On the issue discussed at this meeting, the US side said that the relevant action was a response to the attack on the US military and to safeguard its own security, but Iraq, Syria, and other countries have expressed strong opposition and condemnation. The US side says it does not seek to create conflict in the Middle East or anywhere else, but in fact it is doing the opposite, and the military action in question is undoubtedly triggering new turmoil in the region and further exacerbating tensions.

Zhang Jun said that history has repeatedly proven that military means are not the way out of the problem, and the indiscriminate use of force will only lead to a greater crisis. The US action will inevitably exacerbate the vicious circle of counter-violence in the region. China urges relevant parties to remain calm and exercise restraint, earnestly abide by the UN Charter and international law, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries, stop illegal military operations, and prevent regional tensions from further escalating or even getting out of control.

Zhang Jun said that it must be pointed out that the fundamental reason for the continuous escalation of tensions in the Middle East for several months is that the ceasefire and cessation of fighting in Gaza have not been implemented. All parties should heed the strong voice and overwhelming consensus of the international community and support the Security Council in taking strong action to promote an immediate ceasefire, save lives, alleviate humanitarian disasters and contain the spillover effects of the conflict. China calls on relevant countries to show political will and determination, take more concrete actions to maintain regional peace and stability, and less selfish geopolitical calculations, and play their due constructive role.

Zhang Jun said that today's world is becoming more dangerous, and international peace and security are facing serious challenges. China believes that in the face of a chaotic and chaotic world, we must uphold the sense of community with a shared future and fully recognize that all countries share a common destiny and are interdependent in the future. All countries must commit themselves to maintaining common security, achieving common development and building a common future. We need to uphold true multilateralism, uphold the central role of the United Nations, promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization, and jointly build a world of lasting peace and universal security.
