Recently, Herbert Jr. revealed on Twitter that he had screened "Dune 2" at a private studio preview and was full of praise for it: "It's so gratifying to see my father's story being presented so meticulously. When this new film is combined with Dune: Part One, it's undoubtedly the finest film adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic to date. Back in 2021, he was equally enthusiastic about the first Dune, even saying he wished his parents (Frank and mother Beverly Ann Stewart) would see it for themselves.
Brian has been immersed in the Dune franchise since 1999, when he collaborated with acclaimed author Kevin J. Anderson (author of Star Wars and Seven Suns Galaxy Saga on the Dune Trilogy). Since then, the two have teamed up to create a number of other Dune sub-series, including The Legend Trilogy, Dune of Heroes, and Dune University. The upcoming HBO Max series Dune: Prophecy is based on the duo's 2012 Sisterhood of Dune. Most recently, the duo launched Dune: Successors of Kadadan in 2022 as the final installment of the Kadadan's prequel trilogy.
All the praise and momentum bode well for Dune: Part II to be a huge theatrical success when it opens on March 1. Stay tuned for a follow-up review of io9**.
