Let's record my city Lugou Bridge is located on the Yongding River in Fengtai District, Beijing, China, and is named after the span of the Lugou River, or Yongding River. Lugou Bridge was built in 1189 (the twenty-ninth year of Jin Dading), completed in March 1192 (the third year of Mingchang), the initial name was "Guangli Bridge", and later the name "Lugou Bridge" was given because of the name of the river "Lugou" spanned. On July 7, 1937, Japan launched a full-scale war of aggression against China at Lugou Bridge, known as the "Lugou Bridge Incident" (also known as the "77 Incident"). The total length of the Lugou Bridge is 2122 meters, plus the approach roads at both ends, the total length is 2665 meters, the total width of the bridge is 93 meters, the bridge deck is 75 meters, 10 piers and 11 bridge holes, the goose wing bridge deck on both sides of the bridge is in the shape of a bell mouth. The bridges are all built of white stone, the stone railings on the bridge deck, 281 engraved pillars, and 501 stone lions are carved at the top. There is a pair of stone beasts on the wings of the bridge, the west is a stone elephant, and the east is a stone lion. The stone bridge has two pairs of Huabiao, which stand at both ends of the bridge.
On July 7, 1937, the Japanese army stationed in Fengtai conducted a provocative military exercise north of the Lugou Bridge, and then, looking for provocation near the exercise ground, Japan requested to enter Wanping County, China to search on the grounds of missing soldiers, but was rejected by the squadron. Japan immediately launched an attack, and the squadron carried out heroic resistance at the Lugou Bridge, which was the Lugou Bridge Incident, also known as the "77 Incident".
The outbreak of the July 7 Incident was an escalation of Japan's attempt to suppress China by military force. This incident was not accidental, it was part of Japan's long-term strategy of aggression against China, Japan quickly became strong after the Meiji Restoration, eyeing Chinese mainland, in 1931, Japan launched the "918 Incident" in northeast China, occupying three northeastern provinces of China, however, China did not give in.
The Lugou Bridge Incident was the starting point of China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the beginning of the awakening of the Chinese nation. We should bear in mind history, respect history, enhance our sense of national and historical awareness, and take history as a mirror to better promote the development of the country and the nation.
