The small white-fronted goose belongs to the genus Goose and is a small goose bird. They are usually 50-60 cm long, with a wingspan of 105-125 cm, and are relatively delicate and light.

The appearance of the little white-fronted goose is mainly black, white, and gray, the neck and abdomen are light gray, and there is a white area on the head, so it is named "little white-fronted goose". In terms of characteristics, they have a short, slightly tapered mouth, a dark pink beak in color, gray feet, and an unobtrusive but distinctive overall appearance.

The little white-fronted goose mainly inhabits the wetland environment of lakes, rivers and swamps in the alpine region, and especially likes to live in the transition zone between the tundra zone and the coniferous forest zone, and the sparse vegetation provides them with an ideal habitat.

In terms of distribution, the little white-fronted goose mainly breeds in Siberia and migrates to northwest China, east China and the Yangtze River basin in winter, and some of them will continue to migrate south to the wintering area.

The small white-fronted goose mainly feeds on plant seeds, young leaves, stems, herbaceous plants, etc., and occasionally eats a small amount of insects, mollusks, crustaceans, etc. They often forage near water, but also on dry land, and have a lively lifestyle, flying fast and good at chirping. When foraging, the little white-fronted geese will move in groups, showing a more united living habits.

Lesser white-fronted geese breed in areas north of latitude 60°N, where they choose open lakes, estuarine wetlands or marshes for nesting. During breeding, both males and females participate in nest building, hatching, and brooding, showing a good sense of family. In terms of migration, the little white-fronted goose migrates in spring and autumn every year, and is one of the more typical migratory birds.

In recent years, due to the deterioration of the ecological environment and the disturbance of human activities, the number of little white-fronted geese has gradually decreased. Therefore, relevant organizations and conservation groups at home and abroad have included the lesser white-fronted goose in the list of species in need of key protection, and carried out ecological protection and habitat restoration work, but more attention and efforts are still needed.

The relationship between humans and the lesser white-fronted goose is often threatened by human hunting and habitat destruction, so the relationship between humans and the lesser white-fronted goose is not very harmonious. At the same time, the little white-fronted goose also provides researchers with a wealth of ecological data, allowing people to better understand the changes in the natural world and the migration habits of organisms. Therefore, human beings need to strengthen the awareness of ecological protection and work together to protect this precious bird resource.
