Microsoft explained that the push upgrade is mainly for devices that are still using older versions of Windows 11, that is, those that are still running devices that have been or will soon be discontinued, and Microsoft trains them through machine learning technology, and then pushes the upgrade to the devices in stages.
The main version of Windows 11 22H2 that is currently reaching the end of support will end in October 2024 for consumer editions (including Home, Pro, Pro, and ProEducation).
The Windows 11 21H2 version, which is the initial version of Windows 11, ended support in October last year, and many users are still stuck on the Windows 11 21H2 version without updates.
Therefore, Microsoft decided to automatically push the upgrade, that is, if the device meets the hardware requirements, the system will automatically install the Windows 11 23H2 version of the image file and perform the upgrade when it is idle, and then the user will see the restart button, once the restart is clicked, then the upgrade will be completed.
As for machine learning technology training and staged pushing: it works like this, Windows devices have a large number of hardware combinations, such as different motherboards, CPUs, graphics cards, sound cards, network cards and other combinations, Microsoft will prioritize pushing updates to those devices with relatively new hardware, and then collect logs, if no obvious problems are found, then expand the range of push to similar devices.
This machine learning-based phased push helps reduce hardware compatibility issues when upgrading, so not all users will receive the push at the first time, although if the user actively checks for updates, then the push should also be visible.
