Shanghai, January 31 (Reporter Huang Lulu) Today, the parallel conference of the 2024 World Digital Education Conference "Artificial Intelligence and Digital Ethics" was held at the Shanghai World Expo Center, which aims to share the policies and experiences of various countries on the application of artificial intelligence in education, and promote the important consensus on the development of artificial intelligence to empower education. Wang Guangyan, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, Wang Ping, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, Ali Farabi, President of Kazakhstan National University and former Minister of Education and Science of Kazakhstan Tuimebayev Jansente, and Ren Xianliang, Secretary-General of the World Internet Conference, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
Wang Guangyan pointed out that the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is accelerating, and artificial intelligence, as its core driving force, will further release the huge energy accumulated in previous scientific and technological revolutions, and ensure that safety, trustworthiness and reliability have become the common value pursuit of artificial intelligence development. Wang Guangyan emphasized that in recent years, China has always adhered to the concept of "people-oriented", adhered to the purpose of "digital for good", actively built an education system in the intelligent era, actively explored and promoted the innovative application of artificial intelligence, scientifically avoided ethical and security risks, put forward the basic norms of generative artificial intelligence, and created a good environment for the development of artificial intelligence. Wang Guangyan proposed that intelligent technology should be used to change student learning, education and teaching, school governance and education ecology, build a new form of "teacher-machine-student" three-dimensional teaching, promote the transformation from knowledge transfer to high-level ability training and comprehensive quality cultivation, and coordinate the promotion of digital education, digital technology, digital humanities, and digital ethics, so that artificial intelligence can better benefit teachers and students.
At the meeting, Du Yubo, President of the Chinese Association of Higher Education, Yao Chizhi, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dean of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences of Tsinghua University, Colin Bailey, President of Queen Mary University of London and Academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Zheng Qinghua, President of Tongji University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Christian Besier, President of the Council of the International Federation of Artificial Intelligence from 2021 to 2023 and Research Director of the French National Center for Scientific Research, respectively focused on the transformation and persistence of higher education in the digital era. The future development direction of artificial intelligence technology, the application ethics of artificial intelligence in education, the empowerment of artificial intelligence to create a new pattern of future education, and the prospects, risks and limitations of artificial intelligence teachers were keynote reports.
The conference released the initiative of "Artificial Intelligence Empowering Education Development". The conference was guided by the Department of Science, Technology and Information Technology and the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, hosted by the Chinese Association of Higher Education, and hosted by Tongji University, with more than 200 representatives from more than 60 countries and regions, universities, research institutes and industry enterprises across the country.
