According to Cambodian media news, Mrs. Suwanna Gomlai, executive director of the Wildlife Alliance (WA), stressed that Cambodia will introduce tigers from India and transport them to the Cardamom Mountains this year and 2024.
On the afternoon of February 22, Mrs. Suwanna Gonlai, Executive Director of the Wildlife Alliance (WA), said this at a press conference before the Cardamom Hill exhibition.
She told reporters at the scene: "Cambodia and India have reached the final stage of receiving tiger-related documents. So we are convinced that the tigers from India will arrive this year 2024. ”
She noted that the four tigers scheduled to arrive in Cambodia are one male and three females. At the same time, the alliance worked with the Ministry of Environment to install 410 cameras in the Cardamom Mountains to know the exact number of wild animals that are used as food for tigers. The four tigers will be released in protected and safest areas of the Cardamom Mountains, all in an effort to restore Cambodia's wild tiger population.
It should be mentioned that on November 12, 2022, Cambodia and India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Strategic Cooperation in Biodiversity Conservation, Sustainable Wildlife Management and Restoration of Great Tigers and Their Habitats, under which the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia and the Wildlife Alliance (WA) prepared 90 hectares of woodland, iron fences, cages, pools and wildlife as food in the Dadai Wildlife Habitat in the Cardamom Mountains to help tigers adapt before they are released into the core area.
