The 2024 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's largest consumer technology exhibition, opened in Las Vegas, USA, on the 9th local time. According to the official data released by CES, more than 1,100 Chinese companies and their overseas branches participated in this exhibition, focusing on China's innovation achievements in the field of science and technology. However, due to unilateral sanctions by the United States, Huawei, DJI and other companies were absent from this CES.
In 2023, artificial intelligence (AI) models will set off a new wave of industry around the world, making AI a hot topic at this year's CES, where a large number of Chinese companies will showcase their capabilities and achievements in the AI field. According to Hong Kong's South China Morning Post, Chinese exhibitors are returning to Las Vegas this year, with smaller startups growing rapidly. During CES, both Alibaba and Lenovo showcased the latest applications and hardware products that incorporate AI. According to South Korea's "East Asia**", many of the products exhibited by Chinese companies involve mobile travel, smart cars and other fields, which are considered to be the industrial direction in which China has an advantage in the field of global AI applications.
China has been the global champion in the production of new energy vehicles for many years. Among the CES exhibitors in the field of mobility, the land-air integrated flying car displayed by the Chinese smart mobility company Xpeng is unique. In land mode, flight systems such as rotors can be fully folded and stored inside the vehicle. After deformation, the car can open its arms and switch to flight mode to achieve vertical take-off and landing.
In recent years, the strength and market share of Chinese enterprises in the display field have also continued to grow, and BOE exhibited the industry's first dual-slide OLED display and curved display equipped with Mini LED backlight technology at CES. The Geely Galaxy E8 electric vehicle with BOE's 45-inch screen was also on display at the show. TCL Huaxing displayed products such as large-screen QD-Mini LED giant screen TVs.
Zhu Keli, executive director of the China Information Association and founding president of the National Research Institute of New Economy, told the Global Times on the 10th that CES is a global stage that brings together many leading enterprises and innovative forces in the field of international consumer technology. Through the exhibition, Chinese enterprises can directly showcase the latest products, technologies and solutions to global audiences, and enhance brand recognition and influence in the international market. This will help the world to have a more comprehensive understanding of the strength and innovation capabilities of Chinese technology companies.
Some Chinese companies that have not been able to appear at CES have also attracted attention. According to the South China Morning Post, Huawei, DJI and a number of Chinese semiconductor companies are unable to participate in CES due to US restrictions. Zhu Keli believes that the relevant Chinese companies have an important position and influence in the global market, and their absence will undoubtedly have a certain impact on the CES itself and the international consumer technology market. In the long run, the prosperity and development of the global consumer technology industry requires the joint participation and cooperation of enterprises from all countries. Artificial intelligence expert Guo Tao told the Global Times that sanctions or restrictions from the United States are one of the main reasons for the absence of these Chinese companies, and this unfair environment is not conducive to the healthy development of the global technology industry.
